Rte gold is the best of them.
Lillian Smith had the perfect voice for late night radio on Radio 1 but don’t think she does it anymore. I liked Murieann too even if @caulifloweredneanderthal wasn’t a fan.
Would have been yeah
This is the thing. They seemed to be aimed at millennials who would be streaming music anyway etc. What’s the advantage for any young person to listen to any daytime radio show ? Including dermot and dave in that.
Anyone think Ian Dempsey is pure shite? Never shuts up talking.
Whatever show is on radio 1 between 11 and 2 at night is great.I think that wan used to be the presenter, there’s some fella on now,she had a voice that was like silk.Perfectly suited to late night radio.
Cathal Murray has been doing that for a few years
A dj is supposed to never stop talking. They can’t have dead air
I thought they play records ?
That’s what I thought too.
Radio stations stopped playing records 50 odd years ago
Louise Duffy axed also by today fm. Paul Galvin better start designing new shoes.
Ah lovely
For sale: snakeskin loafers, never worn
Or some more cloaks.
They’re not employed now as DJ’s they are “content creators” who depend on their production team to come up with vacuous waffle to fill air time. It’s cheaper to discuss love island than play music. And love island is on the intellectual end of the subject spectrum on daytime music radio stations hosted by content creators…
That’s it. There’s a new generation that they need to appeal to, and that generation is more interested in viral videos and Instagram than listening to a song in its entirety.
People entering the industry are told they need to be flexible and multimedia creators. No longer is being a good presenter the only criteria - how can you engage with your audience via social media? Can you create video content as well? And so on…
Same is happening in print. If you can’t do social media, create podcasts and vlogs, then newspapers have no interest in you.
I had not thought of that. Are radio stations so tight now that’d they prefer their presenters to talk utter shite and try and be funny rather than play music? Are the royalties fees that expensive?
RTÉ Gold play almost non stop music. No adverts.
Shows like The Beat Goes On is all about the music.
Not exactly. By their licencsing agreements they all have to have a certain % of talk content. It’s much easier (and less resource required) to talk about popular culture than go off and do a bit of research and get in interesting guests.
Yep. The royalties they pay for an hour are much less than the cost of a DJ
