Dynamo the magician? He was everywhere about 6/7 years ago.
Disappeared
Still very active on social media lads
That’s a throwback alright. I wonder was Comet Cork linked to the Dublin Comet? Some great bands there, Therapy? And Godflesh amongst them.
I always assumed Conet (Cork) was a one off.
Jim and George were the tastemakers in Cork, it was a great shop
There was a Comet in Dublin in Temple Bar right behind the Central Bank. It was the indie shop of choice run by Brian O’Kelly who was the drummer in psycho billy band the Gorehounds.
Choc-A-Bloc was a good zine. Another Jim (Comic/ Morrish) ran that
Ah no therapy were definitely good
Choc a bloc was class, they used to do brilliant (hilarious) gig reviews, rambling affairs that would remind you of an afternoon in town for @Bandage*
*replace afternoon tea with fancy buns for flagons of cider in the liberty and batter sausages from Mattie Kielys
I see he is playing in Dolan’s Limerick in April. Would only be of interest if he is still doing the Luke Kelly impersonation.
That top ten albums is outrageously good. Going Blank Again would be in my all time Top 5 albums.
It’s a far better album than Loveless IMO, and Ride backed it up
Neil Hannon (the Divine Comedy) was on Matt Coopers Culture Club spot last week and cited a Ride gig in London in the early 90s as his favourite ever gig.
DC doing a tour of Europe over the next few months.
Shoegaze, grunge and metal. No pop or dance music. A proper record store.
Bandwagonesque was a great Indy pop grunge album at the time. I saw Teenage fan club open for nirvana once and they were brilliant
Selected Ambient Works 85-92 wasn’t released for another 6 months. Independent records stores were never the same again after that.
I’d say dance music hadn’t become trendy yet at that stage
Sabres of Paradise, Aphex Twin, Spiritualised etc etc changed all that
Strong stench of TNH but I’ll award you the tenth like just in case it did.
