Who Was The Greatest Hurler You Ever Seen?

the horse was a savage operator allright, sold me a pair of Mikasa gloves down in midleton in his shop in 1994, a gentleman as well, agreed on Gardiner v clare in 2005, a very underrated played IMO,

Where does Teddy McCarthy rate in the pantheon of Cork hurling greats?

Shefflin, top class all round. I feel humbled to say I saw him play. People still think he was ordinary with all of these “legends” but all round shefflin was majestic.

We’re fortunate to have seen players like we did.

Didn’t see Keher in the flesh. O’Neill was class and Henderson is top ten

  1. Frank Cummins
  2. Ger Henderson
  3. John Power
  4. James McGarry
  5. Paul Murphy

Power as I’m a Lockes man, mad as a box of frogs but he was just brilliant over the years. I know Murphy only has 3 seasons under his belt but the defence will be built around him in the next few years and he has two all stars already.

Pat Hartnett you fucking mope. Half back and All Ireland winner 86 & 90.

You were going to Fitzgibbon hurling games circa 84-92? I find that really hard to believe.

I think the fucking dipshits are in about Kevin Harnett BC.

Harnett would pull their teeth out and throw them over the fence one by one these stupid cunts in here.

Being away also gives you a different perspective and you get all the media talk driven into your brain which even a load of lads on here in their 30’s get fooled by.

Sheflins record is one thing, but when he hasn’t been there KK’s forwards often struggled. His brilliance is in his team play an consistency. I’d have to say the best forward in my life time. I think consistency trumps a lot of other things, but in his case when he was missing even one of the best ever teams were clearly very weakened

.

Why so?

That’s when he was playing Fitzgibbon. He may have played slightly later as I think he went to college late enough.

Humbled? That’s a bit much. He was a great player.

I think you might take hurling too seriously if that’s what humbles you. Or maybe you need to travel.

His consistency and drive are what makes him great, rather than the flash moments of skill. What was Shefflins best performance?

V Tipp in 09?

That’s it. That’s what makes Tony Kelly’s selection for both awards even more ridiculous.

If Tony Kelly gets consistent then we have an all-time great on our hands. He is very young still so he has plenty time to get to that level. But until he gets consistent it’s insane the accolades he is getting.

I go for Tommy Walsh also for consistency but I just think his over all skills are better than Shefflin, just. As well as that TW has had a job to do marking other top players, he would do this to a very high level and look spectacular doing it. His athletic ability for his size is remarkable.

I see RTE spelled his name Eddie Kerr in that clip FFS.

Up there. Lacked a bit if consistency from memory but had great skills and without doubt pound for pound the best jump I ever saw in Gaelic games.

Jesus I thought Hartnett was a savage hurler. Plenty hatchet boys in that cork team wouldn’t have had him down as one of em. What age are you that you saw him hurling for UCC. He’s into his 50s I’d say, know he would hav been VERY mature student playing it alright, think he was there in 95 my first yr in the college, one of Lohans was the capt, johnny Enright running the show.

Wouldn’t have been that odd if they saw him as a bit of an enforcer then considering he was at tail end of career and twice there age

Ha h ha. Kevin hartnett FFS KC

Quick google would suggest he graduated 95 so wasn’t playing my first yr there which would have been 95-96 fitgibbon.
