Iā€™m sure Paul Reynolds will explain all on the news

When they bring in ex RUC to clean things up you know things are bad.

Is there anyone disgruntled back in the country recently with high level info and an axe to grind??

Wasnā€™t it always said that Gerry Hutch was in the pocket of the guards?

Love/Hate had it.

The compulsory drug tests will be an eye opener too.

Former garda held over alleged links to the Hutch mob

A retired Garda Superintendent has been charged over a ā‚¬600,000 cannabis seizure at his home in Dublin last week.

Officers attached to the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation recovered 30kg of cannabis herb during search operations on 29 September.

John Murphy, 61, was arrested last Wednesday and detained at Irishtown Garda Station for questioning.

He was charged just after 8pm last night and appeared before Dublin District Court this morning, where he was charged with possession of cannabis worth more than ā‚¬13,000 at his home in a north Dublin suburb.

Detective Sergeant Brian Hanley told the court that Mr Murphy ā€œmade no reply after cautionā€ and he was handed a copy of the charge sheet.

The court ordered that the garda not to read out Mr Murphyā€™s address following a request from Mr Murphyā€™s solicitor, who cited his clientā€™s personal security

Detective Sergeant Hanley did not object to bail but told Bryan Judge Smyth that he was seeking several conditions, including that Mr Murphy not contact four people who cannot be named

Judge Smyth remanded Mr Murphy in custody with consent to bail to appear at Cloverhill District Court via video link on Friday.

Would this guy have had any connections with the senior garda who killed himself during the Regency investigation?

Not particularly, but the family would be something onto Blue Bloods, good few of them in upper management. This fella is retired a good while too, and on a proper gold-plated pension

Was it ā‚¬600k or ā‚¬13k worth of herb he was caught with?

Whatā€™s the betting Gerry ā€˜the monkā€™ Hutch provided his limo services for the night? More proof this country is as crooked as the hind leg of a dog.
This begs the question just how many GardaĆ of various ranks do the Kinahan cartel have on its pay roll

It would be naive to think it stops here. However it is a good sign that this is being pursued and to my mind is one of the main reasons why Drew Harris was a good appointment

Yeah but to be honest not completely unpredictable. The ā€œa couple of rotten applesā€ schtick from the guards over the last couple of decades every time a scandal rolled in (how many tribunals? how many whistleblowers?) rolled in has pretty clearly exposed that the entire culture within the force is not fit for purpose

Ah here ā€¦ surely a few alarm bells went off back in 2010?!

I wouldnā€™t say the entire culture. But the fact of the independent reporting on the retirement of some sort of rockstar superintendent who is friends with celebrities is absolutely fucking bizarre. Alarm bells should have been going off somewhere.
