Which I doubt they got wind of at 2am? It could have waited until morning
the kids were taken on a S12. not an EAW (and an EAW wouldve seen him arrested, not the kids taken onto care)
So then, my next best-guess is that his ex- got in touch with his family in Ireland for their help, and they called AGS.
I’d agree that it could have waited. Nobody is coming out of this looking peachy. He’s definitely not the poster boy for freedom and justice that some would have you believe.

If his family told AGS that he was an alcoholic who had taken his children from their mother without her consent, and that he presented an immediate and serious risk to the children, would that be grounds for a S12?
in the normal course of action, the gardai would accompany social workers in the morning for an ECO

we dont know most of the details. but S12 is rarely used

and an abduction hasnt been confirmed, as you say we dont know the details and even in a child abduction, its normally an ECO, not s12
