In fairness to the man, he never shirked a challenge as a player, I doubt he will now.
Not so, methinks. Tipp won in 2010 because of the knee fiasco. Well deserved on the day, more than well deserved on the day, but Kilkenny management went glasshouse bonkers in run up.
2016? Needed Joe Canning and Adrian Tuohy getting injured. 21st century Tipperary hurling is like Tom Jones and covers, a slowed down form of excellence.
When talking to a 42.ie journalist, guffing about the blindingly obvious. The Tipp panel under Declan Ryan found TD a thorn without a rose.
The widely-held perception of that team being overly self-satisfied would say more for TD than them. A generational mis-match with Dec Ryan at any rate Iād imagine.
Big expense four weeks in a row in fairness.
Church is visibly ageing in that job.
What ages are seamie and paudie and Brendan and bonnar? Plenty fellas writing them off already and saying tipp need to rebuild, but thereās no reason they canāt recapture their best form for another three seasons anyway, tipp need to be targeting winning an AI before those guys do fall away, as in next year, year after.
They need to find a FB. A midfielder. And a bit of pace around the field.
They are all 29. seamie is 30 in a few months and Brendan and Paudie 30 around January.
This is Seamieās 11th season. The three mahers and Noel mcgrathās 10th. Lots of miles on clock
Iād upgrade that to two midfielders.
Shane McGrath and Woody were often derided but we havenāt replaced them
Thereās no reason they canāt be still at their best for 3 more seasons, and have a role to play for another two years.
Iād agree. The main problem is that there has been a lack of leaders to emerge outside that group.
The only fellas that youād say are more or less nailed on starters would be John McGrath, Barrett when not in some kind of external bother, Ronan Maher and Forde this year.
Even to think about something as ceremonial as the captain . It was Brendan Maher for three years. Padraic Maher for the past two. Vice-captaincy has been rotated amongst that 06/07 Minor cohort.
DJ. Carey.
maybe in Waterford!?? would he be a good appointment for them ?
cant see either coming back especially Nicky
Unrelated point but Nicky English is brutal at co-commentary.
agreed
Is Babs still alive? Jaysus he would be the ideal man for the job.
Babs is box office
Alot of lads do not understand team dynamics.
Tipp are only a bit of a tidy up away from an away ireland. Thatās the reality.
Even if MR stays on it could happen. Just change things, be ruthless. Couple of new hungry selectors who awayllre coaches. New head coach, new s&C, whatever.
The first thing you need to make a successful hurling team is good hurlers. Not sure tgere is a county out there with the spread of hurlers like them.
Obviously Galway are top men and deservedly so, but they are and reasonably small solid pick of quality players. Tipp arguably could have more depth
