Why is rooral Oireland so determined to hold the country back?

The growth of cities are inevitable. Dublin isn’t unique in international standards.

People want to be near employment and services.

Big companies want to locate near a large labour force, services and other companies. Small companies want to grow into big companies.

Cities are a byproduct of human behaviour.

Lately the rooral dwellers and their TDs have been kicking up a fuss over the growth of Dublin.

The latest Capital expenditure programme shows our government are still prepared to waste money on roads and services which will be barely used. Build a Metro North in Dublin, of course you can’t have the DART Underground as that would be too much for Dublin.

Rooral dwellers still demand their house on an acre of land and all the services to go with it.

They demand grants and jobs near them, rather than going to them.

They want a further rooral subvention, despite already being net beneficiaries of the tax and local authority systems.

This is holding Ireland back from building balanced infrastructure throughout the country.

Why is rooral Ireland so determined to hold Ireland back? Is it the cold hand of the GGA desperately trying to keep their village teams going? Is it the Healy-Rae types? A narrow gene pool? All of the above?

Ye cant house what ye have

Local TDs in standing up for the people who voted them in shocker

You’ve people in their mid 30s with kids living with their parents in Dublin as they can’t afford to buy a house. Something tells me there might be bigger problems than a few rural loudmouths making some noise about local services.

It’s all connected @Mac

If Dublin can get a directly elected Mayor with their own budget they can start looking out for the City.

If he wants to do that they should be a county councillors they’re supposed to be national legislators, not parish pump gombeen.

National legislators being the clue, not Dublin legislators.

When ye can house what ye have Tim come back to us and we can talk about moving on with the next phase of your plans

Not really the pint Mac was making, but thanks for playing

I’m not sure what point youre making here - sure the same gombeen politicians were on like a shot demanding that everywhere from Dingle to Donegal be included in rent freeze areas due to the pressures caused by housing shortage - surely you’re not saying they were talking through their parish pump holes? Surely the housing crisis we hear endlessly debated isn’t just inside the M50

People commuting from Cork and Limerick every day due to the ridiculous cost of living.

Apartments being built that aren’t up to fire standards due to the rush to try and house people.

Take Malahide and Howth out of Dublin and you’re left with a sprawling cesspit

A major part of the the 2040 plan, which already gives rooral Ireland far too much, is to make proper cities out of Cork, Limerick and Galway.

Rooral Ireland doesn’t want that.

They want to be able to live miles from everyone and enjoy the same services.
