Beating them will certainly help with belief but the 2016 and 2018 wins weren’t of much use to us in the last World Cup quarter-final. It must be extremely rare for a team to beat NZ 3 times in a row and unfortunately “The Law of Averages” does apply for sports. Although they’ve beaten us so often that maybe we’re due plenty of retribution.

Soccer achievements pre the breakup of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia have a bit of an asterisk. Way more competitive now.

Euro 88 was a greater achievement than Italia 90 or USA 94.

I’d agree with that. Qualifying for it was a superb breakthrough for Irish soccer and considering the quality of the tournament the results were a level above 90 and 94

USSR and Netherlands were different class. We played well against both also, albeit backs against the wall towards the end of the Dutch game, understandably. 8 team tournament, properly condensed quality, in qualifying and tournament play.

Its all what you remember, some lads here dont remember Italia 90. Others dont even remember 2002

I don’t know any dockers, they loves the rubby down at the docks.
I was talking to a doctor acquaintance alright, I hadn’t seen the match so I was no good to him, he’s traveling tomorrow but he wouldn’t know if the ball is pumped or stuffed as they say :man_shrugging:
