Is that a Pavlova that you fucked out?
When his parents named him Merlin Sheldrake they pretty much decided he would have a career writing mushroom books
Not yet, thanks.
There were a few mushrooms in East Galway – envy… – a fortnight ago. Friend sent snaps. Seethe… But nothing around Kilkenny as yet.
Am listening to rain fall, right now. Was thundery yesterday and therefore perfect late July mushroom weather. But I think night temperatures are a bit low, even after the heatwave, for the moment.
Mushrooms obsess me… They better come…
You not seen these Cark underage teams?
@the_mixer_walsh , not quite mushrooms but any experience of native truffles on your excursions?
Also found this very comprehensive document recently doing some research, initially on truffles. Might be of interest to any of the mushroom lovers out there.

Le cúnamh Dé.
None whatsoever. My foraging is quite limited to field mushrooms, game hunting and fresh water fishing. I have an ever increasing niggle in my brain to “get away from it all” and sustain myself in a log cabin in the woods somewhere. Is truffle hunting a pass time of your own ?
Thanks, a noble pursuit if attainable and sustainable.
No not at all, the French generally use pigs to dig them out although certain breeds of dogs can be trained to do the same with less collateral damage. Its more of a Walter Mitty like fantasy of early retirement, turning over vast sums on a small few acres.
Do we have truffles in Ireland?
Supposedly but very little info on anyone successfully farming them to any great extent.
Unfortunately not attainable. My notions of self sustainability and the lifestyle I’ve become accustomed to are far from compatible. It would be a terrific way to live i imagine
Oh god
The ould fella rang me there and he’s throwing a few into the pan.
I somehow happened upon a new Nicholas cage movie called Pig about this very topic. He lives off grid living a life of subsistence with his truffle foraging pig. It was actually a pleasant watch.
I’m on the way back from a dip in Bishop’s Quarter. I’ll call in for the tea.
You’ll have to lick the pan.
