Will Gaelic Football become extinct?

Is it time for the nation to finally get rid of this shit? Gaelic Football is a nothing sport, yet it has a mass following of simpletons. These simpletons discuss everything about gaa in work and in pubs, everything from u-12 club games, to the AI final. They pay good money every year following a few uneducated muldoons hand passing a ball back and forth. I am not including hurling in this as from my own personal experience there are a number of alright sorts involved in hurling and in fairness it is a fantastic sport. Ireland has plenty to be proud of yet I keep hear people spouting shite about how important gaelic football is in our society and how we are a great sporting nation because of it. Let’s look at the other sports that are diminished by yob mob rule.

Rugby - We are 7th in the IRB world rankings and arguably are home to the best club team in the world. We are a stronghold in world rugby and would potentially be similar to New Zealand if gaelic football didn’t exist.

Football - We are 26th in FIFA’s world rankings, a great feat given that every nation in the world plays football. Our players have lit up leagues around the world. Shamrock Rovers reaching the group stages of the Europa League was a far greater achievement than anything the gaelic football set will achieve.

Golf - We have exported some of the finest golfers this planet has seen. We currently have the number 1 golfer in the world. Ireland also has some of the best golf courses on this earth.

Horse Racing - We are number 1 in the world with respect to almost every aspect of horse racing. We have the best breeding, the best bloodline, the best trainers and the best jockeys in the world. Our race-courses could be improved.

Cricket - We are home to the man who scored the quickest century in t20 cricket, a great achievement that will be hard beaten. I’d say if I asked the simpletons at Croke Park today, only 5% would be able to name him. Our national side is far from good, we don’t have a test side (we have applied to be given test status) and we usually get killed in ODI’s. Guys like Eoin Morgan had to go and play for England due to the lack of interest in the sport over here. He deserves great credit for leaving this shit hole to make something of his career, he wasn’t going to be held back by the gaa set. We are steadily improving and cricket was played in Ireland long before gaelic games.

Hurling - Hurling is a sensational sport, with plenty of alright sorts involved. There are also some simpletons (usually dual players or those from Tipperary) but as a general rule, hurling is acceptable. This is a point proven by the amount of competitive counties in the hurling championship. The sport involves skill, something oblivious to most gaa men, so there are lower levels of competition for the “weaker” (more retarded) counties. I maintain that without gaelic football, hurling would be a phenomenon worldwide, the reason hurling isn’t a worldwide phenomenon is that it’s ugly sister gaelic football is marketed with it, thus killing any chance of other countries embracing the sport. Disgraceful.

Other Sports - We have excellent competitors in many other sports, our boxers, both amateur and professional, have represented us with grace and brilliance, our showjumpers similarly. Tennis and snooker are sports that we should be more successful in but again the investment in gaa ruins anyone’s chances of ever being successful in any other sport.

Essentially what I am saying is that gaelic football is a massive drain on this nations talents. It dominates public funding, it is always the main article for our media outlets. In short it’s a travesty. The focus of a youngsters sporting life is fucking gaelic games, an amateur sport for simple folk. This has to change. Our kids should be educated in proper sports like soccer, cricket, tennis et al. Without gaa we would be an even more successful country on the world-wide stage than we already are. There has been a backlash on the catholic church given their scandalous actions in the past, a backlash that means it will be insignificant in future generations in this country. I can only hope something similar happens with gaelic football and that my childrens children can celebrate proper sportsmen and women instead of some simpleton from Kilala who can’t add 4 & 4.

Essentially what you are saying is a load of cock really even if the standered of football has slipped big time…

good read tho!

Participation in sports is socially reinforced mate. The quality of the sport itself has little or nothing to do with it.

Agreed in part. However there are sports that should be encouraged far more than gaa. Sports that have the ability to bring huge revenue and interest to our nation.

The 95% would be showing good cricket knowledge then, because it’s simply not true.

 In world cup t20 cricket, you know what I meant, I was talking about the Irish national side.

Still wrong unfortunately. World Cup is a 50-over tournament.

Who is this tipping king simpleton and why is he entertained on this site? I feel sorry for any goon who has nothing better to do on a Sunday evening than spend half an hour typing this shit.

 :shakefist: FFS. You get the point, please stop derailing the serious issues raised in this thread!

TTks post is too long too read but I assume he is referencing footballs all Ireland being won by a psychologist.

Time to wrap it up all right.

Read it you twat.

Only 7 countries take rugby seriously.
It’s a sport for wankers, played by wankers and supported by wankers.

+1

Rugby is the sort of sport where child killers are welcomed with open arms.

I’m lost. Where’s the serious discussion part?

 Rugby is played by highly educated gentlemen who have respect for the sport they are playing.

What sports have ever become extinct?

Dinosaur basketball.

Not a sport.
