The Clare incident was down to one lad ,who wouldn’t be the most intelligent, in his early 20s who was unemployed at the time staying up most nights smoking a few joints and playing call of duty til all hours.
Davy to his credit got him a job in a warehouse in Shannon and moved him into his house in Trough for a couple of months in order to keep him onside and committed to the county side. But Davy being Davy he had to go and spoil a lot of that unseen work by tarring the whole squad with a throwaway comment about drug use with little or no context to it.

Davy has one rule for his favourites and one for everyone else. Favourites will get as many chances as they like, the others will be ostracised for the smallest thing.
Clare were flying in the spring if 2014 until there was a similar drink driving incident which Davy completely overreacted to and flogged the shit out of the team for a couple of weeks after and refused to directly talk to the perpetrator’s club mates on the panel for months afterwards as they didn’t dob him in to Davy. Davy saw it as a betrayal of trust that they wouldn’t sell their clubmate down the river and was annoyed that a guard told him days afterwards and saw it as them choosing him over Davy.
The mans psyche is not suited to managing Clare, every problem is a nail and he is a hammer when he was with Clare. Much better for all involved for him to stay away, he takes things in Clare way too personal as if it is his birthright compared to when involved with other counties.

I had heard about the drink driving case from a copper in limerick and wasn’t sure if it was bullshit. You then hear Davy talking about hating bullying…
I still reckon Clare would be more likely to win something with Davy than with the current duo

There was another incident after a Mary I fitz match with a different player in 2016. That lad is also a head the ball.

I didn’t know the back story to that all I recall was Davy running his mouth the late late and taring all the Clare lads with the one brush. To be honest I thought Davy just made up the story.
