World Cup 2002

Wouldn’t say a terrible Spanish team when they had the likes of RaĂșl, Casillas, Morientes and Hierro fresh from winning the Champions League with Real. Plus Puyol, Salgado etc.

Exactly. It’s a system used to figure out who goes through in the event of a draw. The team that wins on penalties doesn’t win the game of football

How many of that Spanish team won CL medals : 6 ???

They were terrible though, because it wouldn’t sound as good for the Roy Keane fanboys if Ireland went toe to toe with such a quality team without him

Cameroon had just won the African Cup of Nations too hadn’t they? A missed opportunity really. If Roy Keane had played Ireland could conceivably have reached a semi-final.

Maybe if we had a champions league winner of our own whod beaten them all already we’d have beaten an out of sorts Spanish team who went out against South Korea

Spain were road bareback from memory

Mick McCarthy didnt realise Spain were down to 10 men against us in a World cup knockout game

Yeah Italy and Spain were both denied in controversial fashion versus South Korea.

Ah here
Spain regularly underperformed at major tournaments
They were a running joke really. I wouldn’t read too much into a draw with them.

He probably shouldn’t have left the squad so

He got sent home mate

The Cark gang circling the wagons

Did any of the Spanish CL winners throw a sulk over a decade long grievance over being dragged from a Boston slophouse ??

You should tell him that

It was a pity really. Could have reached a World Cup semi-final and Euro 2004 if Keane had decided to stay. Haven’t had as capable a group since 2005.

Ultra professional Roy Keane who people get all worked up about how focused he was and he a pisshead for the majority of his career

Roy was captain at Man U when they couldn’t get the world’s most expensive defender to a drug test in time . He said fuck all . Some man to demand standards

He arrived out to a world cup and there was no training gear, footballs or water bottles and they were training in a farmers field. He called out the FAI and McCarthy and got rail roaded.

McCarthy subsequently failed to realise his opponents were down to 10 men in a knockout world cup game and the FAI have had a fantastic track record since

But ya, Keanes fault

He had a point there but should have still kept quiet . He lost the plot for nothing . He had an awful grudge at MMC
