I kind of agree with you on Belgium but my point was never that tradition doesnât matter at all
They had home advantage. They also had the knowledge that they had comfortably frustrated them for 75 minutes, which creates its own dynamic.
Iâll let it go, we might see whoâs right on Sunday
Do you m think England have a good tradition in the WC? I wouldnât have thought so.
Uruaguayâs HAS to be tradition related.
They are pretty much an outlier based on population and affluence. 2 things that matter.
The other point is debateable alright. I think these English lads are sufficently removed from 66 and 90 to not really be too worried about it.
Croatia are a new country so hard to compare in that sense. But results would suggest since Croatia was created they have an edge in recent success and thus confidence.
But I think this match is more about old meeting new. England about re actually about ret the start of a lifespan. Croatia far further down the track.
I also think fatigue and emotional expense could favour England. That really does matter.
I think England also re the less talented side overall. But they have the best mindset. If it is dour and goes long to extra time etc then I really fancy England. Croatia need to score in 1st half or maybe 55 mins. If they do not I fear for them.
Come on England.
They won one ffs. Better than all but 9 countries (9 I think, canât be asset checking.
It helps generally
It didnât help them in most of the ones since though.
Croatia will beat England
Quisling
Perkin Warbeck had the rebels down to a tee.
Agreed
Didnât it?
They qualified most of the theme.
They made some semis and 1/4âs and lost to very good teams.
They just were not good enough. But tradition would have been a factor in driving them tgere
Ya but my English family actually exist unlike your makey uppy Italian ones
Itâs great to be from Ireland.
We can support Ireland AND England. Itâs coming home.
Only once since 1966 have England been eliminated from the World Cup finals by a team which hasnât previously won the World Cup - the penalty competition loss against Portugal in 2006.
Their other eliminations were at the hands of:
1970: West Germany
1982: West Germany
1986: Argentina
1990: West Germany
1998: Argentina
2002: Brazil
2010: Germany
2014: Italy and Uruguay
Since 1970 inclusive, in 35 World Cup finals games against opposition which hasnât previously won a World Cup, England have only lost three times - and all were in group games which did not result in elimination - the first game in 1986 against Portugal, Romania in 1998, and the dead rubber loss to Belgium this time.
Que?
StatisticsâŚmean fuck all. Sure France will walk the final
Hazard should have been moved centrally behind lukaku and de bruyne sat alot deeper.
Thatâs fine but neither England nor Croatia have great tradition at the WC.
What counts as tradition ffs? They both have made semis more than once.
Itâs fucking hard to make the semis of the world cup of the most played spirt in the world
