A cracking 136 check out by Geert to win the decisive 5th leg of a quality first set.
Geert has great scoring power but has had a tendency in previous years to unexpectedly collapse in matches when on top.
You always get the impression that he’s on the verge of kicking on and moving to the really elite level currently occupied by Duzza and the two Scottys, Waites and Mitchell, but it hasn’t quite happened for him yet.
Perhaps this will be the year. Belgian darts needs him to do well - he’s their last man standing after the exits of Roger Janssen and Davy van Baelen.
He can score with the best of them alright but lacks mental fortitude. I think it was last year he was well on top against Scotty Waites and completely fell apart. Lost 10 or 11 legs in a row to lose 4-3.
Oooft.
De Vos waiting on 116.
Smith with 62 and two darts left inexplicably went for treble ten instead of the safety net of 12s.
Missed the treble ten and Geert took out 116.
Another deciding leg.
Raymond has really grown into this match. I’d love to see him win a set.
Geert closes the match out in a thoroughly professional manner, finishing with a 97 average.
Raymond played some cracking darts himself, however. Hopefully we’ll see more of him on the Australian and WDF circuits during the year.
I’m interested to see whether Scotty Dog, who’s doing analysis for BT tonight, thinks Geert will finally break his second round hoodoo this year.
They’re playing each other.
Huge tie between The Silencer and Doggy Dawson starting now.
Jeff’s walk on music is just as cool as he is.
The Silencer is one of the best players on the planet right now.
A clutch performer who just eases through the gears as games progress.
He’s taken the first set against the darts here, has moved ahead in the second, and looks so comfortable on that stage.
He’s an incredibly cool customer. Reminiscent of his countryman, the great John Part, in how he plays.
He also follows me on Twitter. An all round great guy.
Nice bull finish on 84 by Doggy to hold throw. He needed that.
Doggy breaks to go 2-1 up in set 2. Woof!
And Doggy takes the set 3-1.
That’s a really good comeback by the Yorkshire captain. Jeff looked to be cruising at 1-0 and 1-0 up.
He’ll have to refocus now during the break.
Doggy is on fire here. 2 180s in a row, the first one with the darts landing so close together you could fit them on the head of a pin.
And now three 140s in a row from Doggy in the next leg.
He’s won five legs in a row and is 2-0 up in set 3.
Doggy sweeps set 3 to lead 2-1.
Jeff really needs to stop the rot.
And the Silencer takes the first leg of set 4.
14 darter from Doggy to level set 4.
That’s much more like it from Jeff. He finishes 80 to break Doggy and win set 4 by 3 legs to 1.
We’re going all the way!
Lovely fist bump between the boys as we start the deciding set.
Great camaraderie between them.
