How come Rooney is allowed to balloon one over the bar from inside the box, and it’s ok, but a keeper makes one mistake, and they are deemed flaky or unstable. I suppose the keeper doesn’t have a whole lot to do, so when they do something, it has to be bang on…

All goalkeepers make mistakes. It’s the ones who consistently make howlers that come in for criticism. A good goalkeeper also organises his defenders well, doesn’t leave himself exposed.
Dudek had a superb first season at Liverpool but then he threw 2 in at Anfield to Forlan and Man Utd and was never the same afterwards.
Apart from his heroics in Istanbul of course.
Barthez was up and down for United. He pulled off a save once from Didi Hamann which remains the best I have ever seen. He changed direction mid air as the ball was going towards the top corner.
David James was brutal for the initial part of his career
