My man in the CCCC tells me the game is unlikely to be refixed, with Kilkenny being awarded the points which could make a bollix of the final standings.
The right call. Wexfords skullduggery here cannot go unpunished
With no league final does it make much of a difference?
Massive asterisk beside whoever wins this years league so.
No league winner this year. That’s a pity because the teams might have taken it seriously otherwise
Our 3 in a row gone so
Any hopes of that were dashed after the result on Sunday anyway
It could get messy as general rule states that the points garnered from a walkover can’t be counted in determining the final standings in the group stage of a championship or competition.
Say KK finish on 8 points and another team joins them. .Rule is that a playoff, which I’m sure nobody would have any interest in so close to championship, would have to take place.
In that regard, they’d be as well off playing the thing this weekend if they could.
So unedifying

Wouldn’t it be looked at as a top quality challenge match pre championship as well?
Considering the shambles that was the Clare county board meeting last night, it’s pretty clear who made a complete balls of all of this. Lohan shouldn’t have to apologise for his cock up going on record as blaming Wexford for it, but his county PRO definitely should
Surely the gaa should be taking ownership of it Centrally.it would avoid all the misinformation and mud slinging of last few days
Its a nasty business, and while Wexford GAA may be innocent, their manager certainly isnt when it comes to the subterfuge, confusion, fear and anger within Clare GAA. Legacies tarnished forever, and for what you’d wonder.
There is a lot of murciness to the whole thing. The Gaa coming out and saying it was a HSE call, then are we to believe that they contacted Clare or Wexford for match footage and analysed it? Or did they fire up Gaago?
I don’t for a second believe that was the case as it makes no sense as to how one of the Clare players was identified.
The gaa are saying that only 6 players have been close contacts from over 30,000 games. Then how did two players from this match get singled out? What is that, less than a 0.0002% chance of close contact per match yet there is two here.
I think the likely outcome here is that the Wexford players gave a list of contacts to the HSE including the two Clare players. An over zealous contract tracer made a poor error in judgement and arbitrarily deemed the two Clare players close contacts and there is no backing down from it once the decision was made. Which means that the two Clare players are harshly having to self isolate while the Wexford squad who probably were close contacts were not.
Wexford chairman very specific in his language that they didn’t identify any Clare players as “close contacts” and cooperated fully with local HSE, which would make me believe that a list of contacts was given as per normal protocols.
Lohan was wrong to say that Wexford nominated the players as close contacts but it is all a matter of semantics and obfuscation now over contacts v close contacts.
Lohan will most likely apologies for saying close contacts but he had every right to feel aggrieved as to how this whole thing has played out.
would agree entirely with that. The Wexford lads would be reporting to the South East HSE, but as noted, it was the Mid West HSE who made the call on who is deemed a close contact, so there was transfer of information from the source of the infection, to a HSE board, to another HSE board and from there to the Clare camp.
To be honest, this all started with the Clare PRO on Friday and despite the Wexford chairman clarifying their stance on Friday also, this kept going and going rather than the PRO and Clare finding out themselves what had happened. Instead they let Lohan believe they were giving him the full correct facts and they look like idiots now.
The other thing this highlights is the shambles that is the HSE and their contact tracing and ability to be able to relay information correctly and efficiently. A separate issue but is highlighted in this cluster fuck.
If you mark a lad with COVID and you haven’t caught it yourself, you weren’t marking him half tight enough
The contact tracer was from Limerick.
Now we’re talking …
A misunderstanding. Some pratt in the HSE is the cause of this bullshit. There was no malice intended from either county board. Gossiping pricks brought out an imaginary tale like it was all the truth and wrote about it alluding to something that never was.
I assume RTE will grant Lohan the same platform to apologise in line with platform he used to have a go at Wexford GAA
