Yet another American school shooting

sounds like a reasonable woman

In fairness no surprise to hear @Tierneevin1979 defending the parents here

Let’s not judge anyone here until a jury reaches a decision. I’m sure all this can be reasonably explained.

tbf to @Tierneevin1979 he is correct - again from what the state prosecutor said. The gun was bought if I remember right, with both parents and child present.

The boy put up pictures on social media about his “present”. The mother also on social media posted pictures about his early xmas present. It was after that he was caught doing a search for ammunition and then a a different day he drew disturbing images which a teacher took a picture of. That was the day of the shooting. Parents were called into school and, again if I remember right, “resisted the school’s inclination to exclude the boy”.
Later that day when news of a shooter emrged, the mother txted the boy to say, “Don’t do it” while the father reported a gun missing from his home.

Yep, got my timings wrong

"Just one day before the shooting, a teacher said she saw the boy searching online for ammunition, which prompted a meeting with school officials, Ms McDonald said. After being informed of the incident, Mrs Crumbley texted her son: “LOL I’m not mad at you. You have to learn not to get caught.”

And on Tuesday morning - hours before the rampage - Mr and Mrs Crumbley were called into the school for an urgent meeting after teachers found a note by their son, including several drawings of guns and bloodied people alongside captions like “the thoughts won’t stop. Help me”, and “blood everywhere”. The boy had also written “My life is useless” and “The world is dead”, according to the prosecutor"

Real classy

So normal

Signs discourage gun-toting on bank premises

Banks can establish policies and post signs to prohibit open or concealed weapons inside their buildings as a matter of private property rights. However, that authority doesn’t stretch very far.

“Banks can have different policies with whether or not a concealed carry is something that they will allow or not. But if it is a concealed carry, you may not know that a customer has a gun,” Johnson says.

Moreover, neither a policy nor a sign carries much force of law.

“In some states, a private business will be able to post such a sign, and if they discover that someone had indeed brought a gun onto the premises, they can have that person removed, but very often that will carry no criminal penalty,” Everitt says. “There is very little deterrent.”

Michalowski says the concealed carry association encourages its members to respect policies and posted signs that prohibit weapons. Instead, concealed carriers are encouraged to leave their guns locked in their vehicle.

Still, that respect comes with a warning for banks and other businesses that don’t welcome firearms.

“If some place is ‘posted’ that it’s off-limits for whatever reason, whether it be by local ordinance or the policy of the business, we encourage our members, and indeed everybody who carries concealed, to honor those policies,” Michalowski says. “But at the same time, we also encourage our people to find other places to do business. If you don’t want our guns, you don’t want our money.”

They are simply a product of their environment.

And what about all the people that aren’t gun nuts?

They bought him, a child, a gun as a present.

Common enough in those parts.

Is it legal?

Yep

You really can’t get a child acquainted with an AR-15 fast enough. The day we have thousands of toddlers running around Ireland with AR-15s will be the day we know we are truly free.

What would you like for Christmas son? An Ar-15.

You’ll have to wait until you’re 7

I’d imagine with a lot of conditions that have to be followed by the parents of the child.
