Master stroke by Ashley in giving him the job in the first place. He knew Kinnear was hated and would do fuck all transfer wise. This allowed Ashley to sell Cabaye while Kinnear took all the flak.
Genius.

Mike Ashley asked Joe Kinnear to leave Newcastle United
Dismay at the the terms of the sale of Yohan Cabaye led to Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley asking director of football Joe Kinnear to leave
Mike Ashley and Joe Kinnear watch Newcastle United in action
Joe Kinnear was asked to stand down by Mike Ashley after the Newcastle United owner became dismayed by the terms of the Yohan Cabaye sale, The Journal can reveal.
United announced Kinnear’s ‘resignation’ in an abrupt and pointed statement at 11pm on Monday evening but The Journal understands that he was asked to leave the club because the £20million deal was not to Ashley’s liking.
While he was happy with the valuation of the player, sources say the deal was not structured by Kinnear in the way that the owner was happy with – which was the final straw for a director of football who had been skating on thin ice for several months.
Cabaye’s sale banked Newcastle £20million with further add-ons to come, but he was United’s biggest asset. The player had not been happy with the way interest from Arsenal was handled in the summer and blamed the director of football for the fall-out which temporarily cost him his France place.
Kinnear’s unlamented departure brings an end to a chaotic eight-month spell at St James’ Park which was nothing less than shambolic from the moment that he put the club under pressure by giving an unauthorised interview before they had officially announced his appointment.
It also represents Ashley’s return to front-line Newcastle United business having been extremely low-key during a January transfer window in which the Magpies signed only one player – striker Luuk de Jong from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Although he continues to face fierce criticism for his approach to the club, the United owner had made funds available to sign players in the summer and over the winter window, with Newcastle having lined up Sporting Lisbon’s Diego Capel as one possible target.
Kinnear was completely unable to to do the deals that mattered, however, and he did not fulfil the wide-ranging remit that Ashley had envisaged when he employed a man he knew socially as they lived close to each other and professionally from his first spell at the club.
It quickly turned into a nightmare, however, with Kinnear’s inability to clinch transfer deals matched by his flimsy grasp of the facts.
And while Newcastle will not make an immediate appointment to replace Kinnear, The Journal understands there are plans to bring in another senior member of management in time.
Despite Ashley having reconnected with former managing director Derek Llambias in recent months – indeed the pair spoke recently on other business – a return appears unlikely. The former casino boss resigned in the summer after Kinnear’s appointment and sources close to him suggested he would welcome the chance to discuss a return but Ashley may look to another name to complement trusted club secretary Lee Charnley and finance director John Irving.
Whoever comes in, The Journal understands their first job may be to rebuff Manchester United interest in midfielder Cheick Tiote – a target for the Red Devils in the summer.
It is understood that a third party purporting to represent the club has made Tiote’s camp aware of interest in the Ivorian and that a move has been suggested in the summer as Manchester United look to make wholesale changes to their squad.
Indeed a move was originally mooted in January, with a price tag of around £12million mentioned. The suggestions from Old Trafford are that a move could be revived in the summer when Newcastle are planning a massive clear-out.
Quite where Kinnear’s resignation leaves the club after Saturday’s bruising 3-0 derby defeat is unclear although Alan Pardew does not plan to discuss the departure in great deal when he addresses the media later this week. Despite the flak that has come his way since Saturday’s abject performance against Sunderland he has been making plans for the summer, which will see an unprecedented changing of the black and white guard with several stars out of contract and available.
Pardew, however, will know that Kinnear’s removal means that he is now alone as a front-line Ashley employee who will be held accountable.
Although Kinnear did not speak publicly after putting his foot in his mouth during a Talksport interview, he was a lightning rod for criticism during lean times.
Although stung by the derby defeat, Pardew believes the club’s comfortable league position gives him some sort of insurance.
According to martin samuel kinnear rang birmingham to enquire abou the availability of a player only to be told the player was on loan…from newcastle
The only reason Ashley did this is because loads of fans had cancelled their season tickets for next season and he wanted them back. I hope people don’t fall for it

World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon has been linked with a shock move to take full ownership of Premier League side Newcastle United in what would be one of the biggest shocks to world football ever seen.
McMahon is reported to be interested in purchasing the club from current owner Mike Ashley, and a bid could materialise in the not too distant future with the Londoner reportedly keen to sell the Magpies. But does that mean we’ll be seeing a Geordie edition of the showcase event Wrestlemania anytime soon? Well, yes. We very well could be.
British website www.winnersports.co.ukhave claimed the billionaire has been “sniffing around” the club with a view to making a bid.
They claim a Newcastle insider said: “Vince McMahon has been sniffing around the club and seems keen on pursuing his interest.
“He sees England as an untapped market for his wrestling empire. He has even indicated he could put on wrestling bouts at St James’s Park
“Obviously it is very early days but there is hope the fans may get what they want with Ashley leaving. Buying a club like Newcastle would throw him into the spotlight in England which is just what he is looking to do.”
Could a possible takeover result in the WWE stars making their Toon debut, and vice-versa the St James’ Park regulars entering the squared circle? Highly unlikely, but we’re sure a number of people would pay to see the Ameobi brothers team up with Alan Pardew to take on the Shield, not to mention names such as John Cena, Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan strutting their stuff in the famous Black and White strip.
With WWE’s flagship show Wrestlemania quickly approaching on April 6, McMahon could look to coincide his takeover with the global event.
The potential ideas are endless, with a number of fans of both the club and WWE taking to social media to voice their favoured situations where both companies could cross. A Premier League Royal Rumble appears to be the firm favourite among fans (where the Ameobi brothers would obviously see their allegiance fall apart to start a feud the likes have never been seen) while a WWE All-Star XI is also a strongly-back idea to take on the best the English top-flight has to offer.
Of course, this is all speculation. But there’s no doubting that Mr McMahon (his famous stage name) could easily afford to purchase the club and rescue them from their recent slump into turmoil. His current worth according to Forbes if over £1bn, while Newcastle are valued by the same company at £168m.
One thing is for sure though. If the takeover happens, we want to see a returning Joe Kinnear v Ryback in next year’s Wrestlemania.
WWE have no official comment on the speculation at the time of writing.
What an absolute nothing story.
I see that Jose Mourinho has come out in support of Alan Pardew today.
“A great guy”
Do they have regional Sunday Sun newspapers in England?
That’s tasteless from the Sun given the weekend that’s in it
It’s a different newspaper. Predates News Internationals paper
That’s brilliant stuff from the Sunday Sun. Can’t wait till that cunt is out of the club
What a horrible cunt of a Club
Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez has broken the news that he has been suffering from testicular cancer. The Argentine was initially diagnosed with the disease in 2013 and in an interview with Argentinian news outlet TN, he said he “decided to tell (his) story because it might be useful for other people who have cancer”.
I felt a sharp pain after clashing with another player in a match against Arsenal.I noticed it started to swell and then I had a scan. They told me I had to had surgery the next day. I asked if it was cancer and they said yes.
They detected a tumour in one of my testicles. When cancer was confirmed, I went home crying.

While the most pressing matter in all this is that Gutierrez recovers from the debilitating illness, some of what he has had to say about the matter will not reflect well on his club. One thing that will undoubtedly be picked up on is that Newcastle have not contributed to his costs.
I came here [Argentina] and I took care of the costs, despite being contracted to Newcastle. Money isn’t important, what matters is your health. I had to undergo chemotherapy.

However, perhaps the most damning quote is how Gutierrez felt about his treatment on his return to the club. In January he was sent out on loan to Norwich despite the fact that he felt he was fit and willing to play for Newcastle.
I underwent surgery in Argentina and they removed my left testicle. I went back to England and the manager told me to leave. I was shocked, because I played consistently for five years.
Gutierrez has since returned to Argentina and within the next week he will undertake his last scheduled course of treatment with the hope that he will return to football.
