This is still a work in progress but the following could be a great rastoolers day out next Monday:

I’m not sure why the GPO Museum isn’t open until next Tuesday? I would have thought these two weeks would have been perfect for it being open. A mate of mine was given early access to it last week and says it is really excellent with a brilliant video presentation.
Myself and the missus did a few bits and pieces yesterday.
Don’t do the Revolution 1916 thing in the Ambassador. Absolute dogshit and a transition year class would make a better fist of it. As someone alluded to here before it seems to be run by Sinn Fein even through to extremely dodgy security and a whole section devoted to the 1981 hunger strikers Avoid at all costs.
Did the Dublin bus Beyond the barricades tour. Wasn’t too bad - two actors recreate different scenes on the bus as it winds its way through Dublin getting off at Stephens Green and Dublin castle. I got a discount which made it worthwhile - not sure I’d pay the full €25 per head. Think its over 12s too. The Freedom bus tour is supposed to be better but after watching Primetime last night and the west Brit policeman doing the guide piece I’m not so sure.
Kilmainham Gaol is a complete pain in the hole. You have to be there on the day at 9:30am to book tickets for that day. Cannot book in advance or online. Massive queues of tourists yesterday morning from 9am. Got told it would be 10:20 by the time I could even book a ticket for a future time in the day. No parking close by either. Absolutely ridiculous set up.
GPO tour doesn’t open till next Tuesday. I believe there is some stuff in the city on the evening of Easter Sunday which kids might like but you won’t get near the parade on O’Connell St as 5,000 relations have been invited to attend.
Liberty Hall could have something on - the banners outside it at the moment look decent anyway.
We finished up with the Guinness tour yesterday. Great trek around and top class porter at the top and very good food in the restaurant. Minerals for the little ones with their ticket.
Nah something Dublin related ideally. Anything I look at is either ticket only, or undoubtably going to be thronged. Ah be grand, will pop into town and see how it goes, weather going well. Something different anyway.
I went to the exhibition in the Hunt Museum (Limerick) earlier.
Not much there, mainly it’s about the life of John Daly & Edward Daly, but just consists mainly of letters and photographs. It’s free in and you could spend a while reading all the letters if you wanted, but there isn’t much that would keep children interested.
I don’t think there’s much happening at all in Limerick this weekend.
Personally, I couldn’t be doing with the parades or the exhibitions. I’ve read enough around the period to have had an idea of what went on anyway. Anytime I feel like commemorating 1916 I walk from Mount St Bridge down Northumberland Road or I walk down Moore Lane and look at the bullet holes in the walls.
