“Revive Redmondism”, sure Gerry you did that yourself by signing the Good Friday Agreement.
Anyone else not give a shit and totally disinterested in these 1916 “celebrations”?
Today is the 18th anniversary of the signing of the Good Friday agreement funnily enough. I notice they never commemorate the day they left the 6 counties behind them and officially went to work for the British.
They only bring it up when they want to compare Gerry to Nelson Mandela.
Even as a critic I’ve enjoyed most of the documentaries and events. You don’t see a military parade often either. Even if you don’t take the Rastooler/Sinn Féin position that this should be treated as a year long line of events of glorification, it’s still the pivotal event in Ireland in the last century.
It’s funny how the myth of Pearse reading the proclamation from the ‘steps’ of the GPO has been able to survive for so long in public consciousness.
Nice article in the Times about how a child from a school in the vicinity of the GPO made the point to the Times correspondent that there are no steps in front of the GPO.
fuck sake. The “myth” of whether there are steps or not. Any teaching I had got was that Pearse read the proclamation from an elevated stance, so on a box or stool of somesort and that he was in front of the GPO. But yet you want to debunk the myth by stating there are no steps at the GPO. Thats a really great point to make in the whole 1916 debate.
Sorry pal, I didnt want to debunk anything, it just gave me pause for thought, funny that it took a child to point it out, that’s all.
quit making up inane myths
Not to labour the point but you’ve never heard of Pearse reading the proclamation from the ‘steps’ of the GPO
The Kilwilkie Estate has a very menacing edge to it.
President Higgins talking sense there on the News. If this event hadn’t occurred in 1916 would he have visited Britain and met their head of state as an equal. He believed not.
The republican flute band from Lurgan that was due in Longwood were delayed and couldn’t be contacted. I hope the peelers didn’t stop them on route.
Good crowd all the same.

Who’s this Moore St Trader that’s talking to Dobbo on the RTE coverage?
Simon Harris making it quite clear that Martin McGuinness just farted beside him.
Excellent coverage so far from RTE, seems like all contributors have been given a brief to keep it simple, nothing new or groundbreaking but fantastic for the ordinary person with no huge interest in history.
Is the parade on already ?
Ask your da if you can get up on his shoulders to see.
