1916 rising celebration

ITS LIES @Nembo_Kid @ChocolateMice @Sidney

@Joe_Player there’s going to be a parade in Newcastle West

I suppose the best thing about the election is that the odious Shatter will be nowhere near the celebrations. In any case my own thoughts on it are that it will be a watered down version of what it should actually be in order to appease the rewriters of our history and not to insult the west brit types that infest our national broadcaster. Neither Batt, Mrs. Batt or the little Batts will be within as asses roar of the ‘celebrations’.

Is it an odd one out competition I wonder?

Which of these men isn’t a quisling lickspittle?

It’s more, only one of these was a living quisling lickspittle during the 1916 Rising.

Christ it’s hard to be Irish sometimes.

That is fucking ridiculous.

O’Connell was the complete opposite to a Republican and the thoughts of leaving the empire would have horrified him him. He was anti Irish in everything he did…an utter cunt.

I wonder will this actually gather some attention, rubberbandits the only ones I see tweeting about it. Classic Fine Gael to try write Connolly and Pearse out of it. Been meaning to change my avatar for a while, I’m going to do it now in protest.

That was an amazing protest glas. You showed em.

Thanks

O’Connell is a hero who had more of a positive impact on Irishmen’s lives than any of those fools. Fantastic that we renamed the street the rebels shamelessly destroyed after him.

Lovely rhetoric but nothing to do with the 1916 rising, similar to that banner.

Thats a clamping

Nonsense. The story of 1916 is a period which fits into a clearly defined path from the Act of Union. When Irish people struggled for civil and religious liberty along with political freedom.

Second level history books tie that all in. That site is I believe College Green, the site of Grattan’s Parliament which was lost under the Act. Parnell and Redmond’s story of Constitutional politics is integral to seeing how Ireland was in the place it was in 1916. The 1916 programme isn’t just about marching some of our troops across the GPO, it’s about putting into political and social context. I’d like to see Edward Carson’s face actually around the place as he is as important as anyone else from that decade in seeing how the Rising came to be.

Spoofers like the Rubberbandits trying to claim to Rising was a solely secular event and should just be glorified because it had mentions of civil liberties for men and women are deluding themselves. For the majority of those Volunteers O’Connell was a hero. It was a deeply Catholic Rising which used Christian symbolism all the way through.

Utter utter tosh.
1916 commemorations should be about 1916.
Fuck off over to the Somme if you want to commemorate Redmond’s role in 1916.
