If you compare both teams, Reina is miles better than Dudek was, Finnan/Johnson is a toss up finnan is a better defender but Johnson is far better going forward…Carragher played his best football under Rafa while Henchoz was nothing more than average, was never the biggest fan of Hyppia but on his day he was a rock for them and probably better than Skrtel/Agger…I would take Fabio Aurelio over Djimi Traore any day of the week…
Hamann was a decent holding midfielder but Mascherano is a step up again, Gerrard like Carragher played his best stuff for the pool under Rafa, Harry Kewell was a shodow of his former self in 2004, Smicer was a limited enough footballer as is Kuyt but i would take the Dutchman over him…Riise was always a player who flattered to deceive as well…Granted they had Baros, Heskey and Owen up front but Owen wanted out and was struggling with his hammer and heskey had reverted to shit by this stage…With both players firing on all cylinders you would take Torres over Owen as he is just a far more complete footballer…Cisse arrived that summer, he was already signed by Houllier and i believe suffered a leg break at euro 2004 and didn’t play much…Neil mellor played a good few games around the time as they were stuck for strikers
