2010 National Hurling League

Exciting game in Thurles. Tipp up by a point.

Kilkenny 1-18 to 0-16 ahead in Nowlan Park.

Tannion comes off the bench to goal for Galway. A point in it.

Carlow a point up in Dr Cullen Park, 11 to 1-7. Colin Ryan with the goal from a 21.

Limerick only two points down now. There’ll be a civic reception for Justin if they win this.

Level in Nowlan Park - five to play.

Limerick a point behind with about a minute or two left.

Fuck it. Lost by a point.

Draw in Thurles. Eoin Kelly with a 21 for Waterford to draw it at the very end.

Clare win by a point in Carlow. John Conlon comes off the bench to rescue us with two points.

Tannion has just got a second goal to put Galway two up. A few minutes to go yet.

A final score from Dr Cullen?

Ah I see it now. Thats Clare into the final. Laois or Carlow to duke it out to meet them I suppose.

Hows Dublin v Cork going? It appears Cork may have won by a point.

We didn’t even remotely deserve it from what I’ve heard. Carlow had three or four goal chances and any one of them would have been enough.

Massive win for Galway in Nowlan Park - 2-21 to 1-23 - huge morale boost for them.

Tannion off the bench to score two goals. Long stoppage for an injury to Skehill near the end.

Carlow are coming. Much like Laois they have a fine man over them and a very young side to work with. Laois won by 5 or 6 up in Down today. Wexford up next in Portlaoise and then a tilt with the rasta men.

Cork won by three point handy enough.

There was nothing handy about it, they only pulled away from the Dubs in the final minutes and still there was only a puck of the ball between the teams at the final whistle…

Bit of controversy apparently at the end of the Limerick Offaly game. Some Limerick mullocker was bearing down on goal and despite being a point behind decided to go for goal. Brian Mullins saved it and the ball went out for what should have been a '65 but the umpire gave it as wide. Apparently it would have been an easy '65 for Limerick to tie the game up. They did hit another wide after that but that was seen as irrelevant.

I call for a replay…

That’s close enough for us to claim the win.

We’re back. A 3rd All Ireland semi final in 4 years beckons. Bring on the Cats.

Scrappy enough game. The Cork defence totally bottled up the Dublin forwards apart from McCrabbe who saw a good bit of ball and they only conceded 1-11, although in saying that Dublin hit some very stupid wides from frees and from out the pitch. Dublin forwards were wiped out really. Cork definitely deserved the win, they had more craft and experience. Horgan had a super match up front for Cork and Aisake O’Hailpin was decent, one excellent point in the first half and won a lot of ball in the air. Brady and Maurice O’Brien were Dublin’s two best players.

I listened to the Limerick game on live 95 , Liam Ahern asked Jerome o Connell at full time what he thought of Limericks chances of avoiding relegation .
Jerome - well we have a point on the board now after today , Dublin have 2pts ,we play them last ,a win will keep us up .That point today was vital .
Liam - ahh Jerome Offaly won that game today , you know that right ?
Jerome - oh ya , sorry about that Liam , i got caught up in the intensity of the last few minutes .
Liam - Well there you have it , the text messages are coming in allready .
Jerome - sorry Liam…
Tj Ryan probably pissed his pants listening to that.

No word yet on Skehill. Hopefully it was just concussion. Callinan is a superior keeper, made a great save at the death to deny Reid who had earlier glefully accepted the gift of an open goal from Skehill.
Galways squad is coming along nicely with Hynes, Cummins and most of all Tannion making the difference when introduced. His 2nd goal was pure class. Farragher was immense again today as was our full back line. Was impressed with the likes of Ryan and Harte as well who didn’t shirk the challenge of Kilkenny in Nowlan Park.
Kilkenny still off the pace but no question that was the best first 15 they’ve fielded so far this year. The sending off of Hogan suggests that certain ‘tactics’ they’ve employed in the past might be held to a bit more scrutiny by officialdom this year. No harm either.
Puts Galways progression to a league final in their own hands and they should beat Dublin at home next week and then Cork on the last day which might indeed be a forerunner of the final pairing.
