Mount Leinster Rangers losing was entirely predictable. They’d been well beaten by Myshall and St Mullins in the round robin league stages and only scrapped into the semi finals. Nine consecutive final appearances, a number of long winter campaigns culminating in last year’s run all the way through to St Patrick’s Day have taken a heavy toll. They’ve looked jaded all season.
I take it the surprise is at the high jinks in the other game and the scale of the Bagenalstown implosion?
Indeed it was.
Conor Laverty has grown a impressive bit of a beard, from looking in the background he’s not the only Kilcoo man to have done so.
Portlaoise qualified for the Final in Laois yesterday, defeating O’Dempsey’s easily enough in the end. They will play Donie Kingston’s Arles Killeen in the final for the second year running after they beat Graiguecullen comfortably enough. Portlaoise are going for 8 in a row.
I would give the nod to Plunketts over Judes. They are playing a very defensive game and counter attacking at serious pace on the break. As such I can’t see Kev Mc waltzing for 3 goals like he got against Brigids. About time Plunketts did this - defence has always been their Achilles heel.
is it true Mcentee left the same player on Mcmemnemin all match as he helped himself to 3-5 ??.. would love to see Judes win it… being knocking on the door for years… don’t think they have enough scoring forwards… should be a very defensive game as both them and plunketts play with a packed defense …boden were a lot nearer to Vincent’s than final score suggested in last year in semi’s, the goals killed them…i’d expect them to give Vincnets a good rattle though macauley will be a big loss…they’ll need to find someone to man mark Connolly as literally everything goes through him and Quinn isn’t half as effective when he hasn’t Connolly kicking ball into his mouth…
I wasn’t at the game but I heard the same lad was left on Kev Mc for most of the game yes. Considering the investment Brigids have made at managerial level and from midfield up, they are sorely lacking at the back. A lot of those starters in the back line were bit part players a few years ago.
Kilcormac look like winning 3 in a row in Offaly after beating main rivals Coolderry in semi. They play St Ryanagh’s Banagher in final. They were dominant in the 80s but haven’t won in 21 years.
Anyone care to explain what happened in Wexford that their Senior Football Championship has run too late to allow a team go forward to compete in Leinster?
It might have made sense to check there alright now that you mention it. Sound.
In Laois we managed to make a cock of the Championship, have to redraw it, go through an objection to the change and still have it done in time for Portlaoise to stroll into Leinster.
it was already behind despite the dual clubs getting to the final. In their wisdom, they postponed 2 weeks of games before the U21 hurling, and the club football was then postponed for 5 weeks and they ran off the end of the group stages and 1/4s in the hurling so they would get those winners into Leinster. Because Laois fucked up their championship, there was a week extra given, and they hoped that the dual clubs would be knocked out so they could run them off concurrently, but that didnt work out, so it was confirmed then they would miss the football winner being in Leinster.
Crokes beat Boden rather well in the second half - 1-16 to 0-12 - to qualify for a Dublin SHC final against Jude’s who beat O’Toole’s by a point earlier
Lixnaw won the kerry hurling inspite of not scoring in the second half in what were I’m told ideal conditions.
1-12 to 4 @ halftime but finished 1-12 to 12. Kilmoyley hit 14 wides with some very wasteful stuff in the second half in particular
Darren Hughes was on fire and some of the points McManus got were spectacular. It would be great if Monaghan could unearth a couple of good young midfielders because an attack line of the Hughes brothers and McMAnus would be scary.
The Laverty goal in the Down final was brilliant. I would be expecting a lot from Ryan Johnson this year, he seemed to have a brilliant game for Kilcoo. I’d say Kilcoo are the best team to challenge Cross in Ulster this year if Cross win Armagh. They did beat them last year though Cross were depleted with Clarke, Kernan and Morgan among others missing.
Keaney seemed to be carrying a knock only got going for 10 minutes but nearly carried boden into it on his own. Paul ryan did nothing from play. It was a good tough game though and the final will be a cakewalk for crokes as the first game was one of the worst games of hurling ive ever seen. O tooles just let Sutcliffe do what he wanted, when he was the only lad on the field who remotely looked like doing something.
