2014 National Football League

Time to get rid of these mickey mouse competitions in January & February altogether.

Get rid of the college competitions?

Playing semi finals and a final of a national competition on consecutive days, sheer madness.
I wouldn’t bother your narrow minds with the details
Thinly veiled I haven’t got a scooby.

Kev, serious question - Senan Connell was on radio explaining the school of thought that with the current emphasis on players bulking up, players knees are no longer able to handle the strain and weight of their own bodies and that this causes a lot of the injuries. Any thoughts on this?

He also said a physio once told him that the cruciate ligament is strong enough to tow a truck.

Think mickee used to do a set of 5 croatian cruciate ligament truck tows after a set of Bulgarian dead lifts and Hungarian handstands in one of his workouts.

+1.

I could have done with having a spare cruciate ligament in the boot last week so.

He’s wrong in the first part, partially. Very few teams are bulking up anymore and that’s a lazy comment, if he made it. There may be a problem with either individuals trying to get too big too fast or uninformed coaches pushing skinny lads to bulk, but I doubt it’s that bad an issue and certainly not at Senior IC.

It’s obviously an exaggeration on the 2nd point, but he is right in the sense that it is a very strong ligament really, it’s holding a lot together. But what happens in my opinion with a lot of GAA players is it’s slowly weakened an worn away over a period of time. Lack of proper recovery is a big issue. That’s why in my opinion dual stars are a big issue, there is no real trend of it at the lower levels even amongst dual players it’s really a problem with guys who play dual county guys with well known injury issues and major joint problems that I can recall are Ciaran Killkenny, Ciaran Sheehan, Colm O Neill, Damien Cahalane. No doubt there are more. All of these are dual stars from Minor/U21, all have had serious injuries to knees hips or shoulders. 3 of those lads stand out to me to have slightly poor movement patterns or running styles, Sheehan maybe being an exception, O Neill and Cahalane being some way chronic in my opinion. All the games, the training and the weights done on poor movement means you are piling misery on top of your poor movement and weakening certain joint areas.
The best example of someone who survived is Tom Kenny, a guy clearly blessed with graceful and functional movement and running style. He probably played more with less strength training and less intelligent coaches (S&C wise) than any of the above mentioned. But he had serious physical natural advantages, and it was obvious to everyone. Matthews the Cork hurling trainer believes Kenny was a better runner than himself (National record holder) and could have ran very very fast 400/800. This is the difference.
We can’t make everyone Tom Kenny, but we can get people moving better earlier in life so they don’t build on poor movement.

Great win for Derry today. It will be interesting to see if they can keep this form up come summertime. A win in either of their last two games (Kildare and Mayo) shoud take them through. Tyrone and Cork face off in Cork next week where the victor should also seal their place in the final four. I think the final four will be Derry, Cork, Dublin and Tyrone.

Tomas Corrigan at corner forward for Fermanagh. Destroyed limerick today. Must have 6 points frm play.

He’s a great bit of stuff. The Quigleys can go fuck themselves.

I was listening to the extremely precise tones of Tommy Carr on Sunday Sport earlier today, he observed that “there has been an awful lot of kicking of the football” in this years National Football League. Who would have thought…

Tommy Carr is a fuckin cock i can’t stand him

Agreed. Out of tune dipshit.

Whoever this Mayo lad is on the punditry, he is an unmerciful cunt.

Lee keegan winning his duel with Diarmuid Connolly

Peach of a kick by Cluxton, the dour cunt.

Eoghan O Gara  What a vindication for those of us who know our football @Bandage
