2016 Allianz National Football League

Grand larceny by my beloved Wexford and Monaghan to steal victories today.

Late tip goal.

Decent point to start off a tough division 3 group.

Div 2 looks like itā€™s going to be tight, big game for Tyrone away to Galway next week.

Sounded like an attritional battle for Tyrone today but Cavan are a team whose style we struggle to break down. Invaluable experience for the young lads on the team to drag these victories out, theyā€™ll need it for the Ulster Championship.

Derry wore Fermanagh down in the end, running out 10 point victors in the end. Galway trashed Laois and Meath defeated Armagh by five points.

Were Mayo not missing 15 players today?

Not surprising to see Laois ship that, couldnā€™t expect much more with a Clare man in charge. Galway are lovely to watch going forward and as respected observers on here have been saying, can come at any time with pretty much a fully formed team like no other county. Laois were lucky to get as close as they did. Lillis already in bother with a trip to Armagh to come. 4 changes made at half time, laughable. Woolies had his number for some time now and will milk this for all its worth.

Eh, weā€™re aristocrats pal. Laois must be putrid that was an fairly unproven galway team. Division 2 might the only competitive part of football this year.

Laois are putrid. Have been for years, canā€™t believe they handed out the beatings they did to Galway in recent years, it was embarrassing to see how bad Galway were there for a while. A thundering disgrace even. Anyway, they look to be getting it together now finally even with all the lads out, but thereā€™s gonna be a lot tougher challenges than that Laois outfit. I hear Lillis plans to have them out running laps in the morning, canā€™t blame him, looks like they need a lot more laps.

they started with 8/9 regulars

Was a blatant penalty?

Wouldnā€™t be getting carried away as Mayo were clearly undertrained, but it was the Cork Style and set up that was most impressive. Bodes well for the year, playing to their strengths. What that brings in terms of success is questionable, but at least they are playing a style that suits.

Beautifully evocative scenes in rural Kiltoom as the biting cold wind whistles through the trees, the rain gathers on the camera lens and the men of Roscommon and Monaghan thrash about awkwardly in the muck. Like something from a Patrick Kavanagh poem.

The kind of thing @Chucks_Nwoko must miss intensely as he slowly bakes in 40 degree celsius temperatures in January, or February as it is now where he is.

The second Cork penalty was a nonsense. God knows what the referee was looking at.

Thatā€™s the kind of football that thrives in low intensity, meaningless games.

The type that won Armagh and All-Ireland and Kerry several titles?

Do you even know what they were doing?

Daniel McKenna looked good for Monaghan when he came in.

he took him out.

to say anything else is just dumb

Armagh and Kerry could execute it in high intensity games.

That was not a high intensity game today, it was a facile win in January and for all the nice football Cork may or may not have played it was against an opposition who allowed them play it.

Cork are a grand football league team. Have been for the past decade. You canā€™t argue that. Will wait and see what happens in knock out stages.

Monaghan were utterly dominant here, should have won this with more ease.

Worst penalty award Iā€™ve seen since Sligoā€™s Mickey Kearins awarded Cork a phantom penalty against Dublin in the 1989 All-Ireland semi-final.

Falling over is not a foul, as far as Iā€™m aware.

Expect them to look highly impressive in the semi-final against Monaghan before losing the final to Dublin by 62 points.

Full forward Thomas Kerr hit a couple of lovely long range points.
