2017 All Ireland Senior Football Championship, Dublin's continued exploitation of its natural advantages

yeah I’d have fuck all interest in a debate over advantage or that shite now. Mayo obviously are not far off, but they cant be missing frees like that. It’s essentially the difference in the result. No one was surprised O Connor missed, he is not a reliable free taker. If they need to carry someone to take frees, then so be it. What I dont get is when you see the frees Doherty was knocking over with ease in the semi final.

It wasn’t the time to be changing free takers between and semi final and final, in the same way it wasnt the time to change goalies between a final and replay.

All Ireland winning teams have gotten away with worse over the years, the difference is, there is no room for error with this Dublin team. They’ll hunt you down. I’d wager even if COC had kicked that free, Dublin still would have worked the situations to work 2 more scores.

Did they? Or did the ref get them over the line? It’s in doubt.

is there anybody on this forum who wouldn’t apart from @Rintintin ?

not sending of o’shea was the big call or sending of COC for his punch on Cooper

It was a much harder free than Rocks but he’s always under pressure from long range. There’s even a graph to support this opinion.

no wouldnt be changing free takers between semi and final, but surely they know for a long time now that Doherty is a good free taker. O Connor looks windy as fuck on frees. Now maybe Doherty hit 2 sweet ones against Kerry and wouldnt do that again, who knows. But I wouldnt trust O Connor with a game winning free. And that was before he had that chance last week.

Also agree too that even if he had scored, Dublin could just as easily got 2 points to win it. As you say, they just find a way. However the fact remains that they didnt need to.

Cillian O Connors Free was tough and into a stiffish Breeze. On a difficulty scale I would say with Rocks you should be pointing 7/8 times out of 10. O connors was nothing more than 50 50. He tried to aim for the far post and bring it in but the breeze held it up and it hit the post.

The one he missed to go 2 points up in the first half was unforgiveable. Would have given Mayo extra impetus going into half time and all. He had a really poor game and is not on an elite level compared to other top forwards in the country.

That’s all true and a valid viewpoint too.

Maybe they would have stepped up and driven on whatever the ref had done. We don’t know of course.

I think they their level of dominance is being overstated. I have found their last two wins less than convincing. For all the advantages and talent at their disposal they didn’t convince me that this year or last they would have won without some very influential “rub of the green” decisions.

If all those calls had gone the other way and they had won I would consider them a great team. For now I think they’re a lucky team that is not greater than the sum of its parts.

Are you still talking about fistyball???

And he fucked up one of my bets in the process. @glas is right . the ref is a wanker.

In fairness it would have been tricky for a citeog but it’s a gimme for a right footer.

Muldoons, still seething on Tuesday, and still blaming the ref.

Losing 4 finals in 6 years. Losing 3 of those 4 finals by a point. Horrific

The free that Mayo got that CoC hit the post with was very soft.

You’re not allowed say that mate. You can only talk about the marginal decisions that went in Dublin’s favour.

Not the sort of free you’d expect to get in the dying moments of a game.

Ya but he gave Dublin a more scorable free😎.

Do the rules change in the dying moments?
