2017 All Ireland Senior Football Championship, Dublin's continued exploitation of its natural advantages

A failed footballer and Aussie Rules player.

One of the main men in Gaelic football however.

Man, his stats are off the charts though. Unrale.

What? Being well built and fit. And kick a point every now and again.

Sounds about right for the ‘modern game’

The one Dublin player that is truly gifted and the measure of any of the 6 players in that great Kerry forward line is Diarmuid Connolly. Gavin was on a pure ego trip not starting him on Sunday. Point was made on that front the day of the Tyrone game (when he should have been on after 20 minutes getting game time once it was wrapped up). What an insult to a truly great player to cite Eoghan O’Gara’s form in training as reason for his selection.

It was Connolly’s introduction above all that turned the tide. He kicked an incredible point, set up any number of scores and generally caused panic in the Mayo defence. Chris Barrett was probably man of the match up until the 75th minute. Only Connolly could have caused him to panic like that and concede the match winning free.

Ah he’s a talented footballer in truth, he’s just another victim of “the process”. Its all about the process.

Nope.
He makes excellent decisions 99% of the time.
He creates space.
He dictates the pace of the game.
He goes to certain players when he wants a certain injection.
He also has great ball control, can get out of stocky situations and can lose players.
He is a brilliant brilliant player.
So is Keegan

People like Rochford are no fools. They watch what this guy does. When he is slowed up there is no comparision in the fluidity to Dublins game.

Its outrageous to suggest he could easily be replaced

You haven’t a notion farmer if thats what you think

His tackling was off the charts. The last free was soft (in keeping with the Dublin bias).

Does Donie Buckley still coach them?

He is the process.

Ya Connolly is one of the greats. He was the difference.

It was a dumb call by Gavin and it was his ego taking over

He is, he’s their metronome. A bedrock upon which the process is built. He could in truth be pretty much anything, centre back, wing back, midfield, and anywhere in the forward line. Its just not that exciting to watch him making looping runs and giving handpasses for 70 minutes.

But thats the process.

Thats it. He could do any job for them. He is just the best for that job

A job that is easily replicated.

Very true, he was composed too and slowed the game down when he needed to

You don’t win 3 in a row in modern era being lucky.

Mayo hunger in last 10 minutes had to be more than Dublin. But Dublin still took them. As a player said to me after the game “each one is a diminishing return” but Dublin played the situation and took the chances and won.

You’d be foolish to suggest Dublin are lucky. They are a great side, one of the all time greats now. My own view is in terms of individual talent and gifted players, they are a notch below Mick O’Dwyer’s Kerry team.

Or 21 v 16 effectively.

This is just wrong. Galway played just as well afterward, which is why I thought they had every chance this year.

Yeah, I don’t know how Mayo pay for Donie Buckley and Tony McEntee.

Thats the point you are missing. Its not easy at all.

Players with his vision and feel for the game are extremely rare.

McGuigan, Paddy Kelly are recent examples.
