2017 All Ireland Senior Football Championship, Dublin's continued exploitation of its natural advantages

It was over when they went off. I was delighted they didn’t throw in the towel and hurled away and kept it close but we never looked like we’d win it.

How do you not know that?

They also have S&C in London flying over at times.

Plenty money there i would say.

McGuigan was much more of a playmaker if I recall correctly. A lovely footpasser. Kelly actually ran at the goal.

Kilkenny had Sam after the game and actually ran across to the Cusack rather than down towards the Hill.

Lol.

The rule clearly states that another foul after advantage has been given is the one that should be penalized if it is more advantageous then the original free… In this case it was so a peno should have been given and a yellow card.

In five of Dublin’s six All-Ireland final matches since 2011, they have been lucky to varying degrees.

Gaelic football is a different game now, the ability to run fast all day is the most important quality and panel depth is everything.

Both teams rely/relied on different strengths. Kerry relied on a gifted, once in a lifetime group of players and there was remarkably little churn in terms of player turnover over the course of 12 seasons, or certainly 9 seasons from 1978 on.

Dublin have already had significantly more player turnover since 2011 than Kerry did between 1975 and 1986.

That panel depth is everything in a 21 man game with significantly greater physical demands than Gaelic football of the 1970s and 1980s.

It’s why Mayo will likely find it very difficult to hang on to Dublin’s coat tails from now on as they are relying on largely the same group they relied on in 2011, with core members of the team like Higgins, Boyle, Moran, Barrett and Seamus O’Shea now pushing the very limits of their physical capabilities.

Connolly and the two Brogans are the three most gifted players Dublin have had in terms of natural ability in the modern era (Con O’Callaghan might match them).

One is gone, another is nearly gone and another still has lots to offer but is being increasingly pushed aside.

And yet it still seems to make no difference.

Is it common knowledge who their benefactors are? I don’t know.

2 euro from every 5 euro collected at the entrance to the climb of Croagh Patrick goes to Mayo GAA… they have the same deal with the church in Knock and their collection.

If your past predictions are anything to go by, Mayo will win the All-Ireland next year and dominate for about 5 years.

Dublin development squads look for height and pace and athleticism. They are confident of adding any deficiency in skills once the raw materials are there.

Learn how to bounce the ball on the Tuesday and solo it on the Thursday. Spend the following week learning how to fist it. Job done.

One of these days MDMA will learn how to solo it. He should be thrown off the panel for giving Fenton bad habits.

Kelly did both, much like Ck. But he drew men, layed off, worked it again. He was an outstanding kickoasser. But it was his oatience that was his best skill.
McGuigan was a playmaker. But so is killkenny. Just a more athletic one.

Killkenny has more attributes and skills than both

There was a few players guilty of not being able to perform this basic skill on Sunday. One of the attempts turned into a 10 yard kick pass, one of only 3 kick passes attempted in the game.

They fund raise all over the world.

On a side note Cork have just started the same.

Bags of cork money in boston if they ever wanted it

Paul Mannion tried to chip a ball into his hands at one stage and nearly killed himself.

Are you seriously comparing Ciaran Kilkenny with Brian McGuigan. CK is a fine player but no where at McGuigan’s level .

I’m saying he has more attributes and an overall better player ya.

He already probably has as many top games played.

McGuigan was class. And clever. And easy on the eye. But CK is more effective overall

McGuigan was the Andrea Pirlo of Gaelic football.

He was no Greg Blaney.
