The county system is unfair, it always has been, like all representative sporting systems.
International football is unfair in the same way.
And yes, so fucking what.
Dublin are fully entitled to maximise every advantage they have, it would be irresponsible of them not to. They are only punching to their weight now after over 100 years of punching below it.
Itâs not up to Dublin to deliberately punch below their weight for the benefit of other counties.
Indeed. But receiving preferential funding from the sports governing body, who have an unhealthy need for them to do well, is far beyond maximising advantage
Thats it too. The system as it stands doesnt work. Itâll never change, but realistically playing 32 teams in a small populated country is madness. It would go down a professional route and ruin the tradition and ethos and all that jazz, but it is massively imbalanced as it currently stands. The GAA dont help balance things either and further this disparity.
Not only that but I donât think there is an appetite on the international market for it. How is professionalism sustainable then? In fact I think the biggest charm of the GAA to international people is that it is amateur.
I must say that I find the outrage over Croke Park being used as a âneutral venueâ a bit ridiculous.
Using the logic that Croke Park is a home venue for Dublin, then Dublin have played all All Ireland finals and semi finals (and some quarter finals) at home for the last 100 odd years.
Talk about wanting to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted.
Dublin play their league games at Croke Park. Since this was allowed, the game changed. Saying otherwise is foolish and trollish, which tbf Matty is doing wonderfully.

It wonât line out like that. I would expect Brian OâDriscoll at no.6 and Deane at midfield with Cronin sweeping and Sean White essentially playing both half forward roles and Connolly roaming with 2 Hurley staying close to goal.
The power and size advantage around the middle is a help but they have to attack as a unit compared to the pathetic effort at counters against Kerry.
Plenty of people have been arguing against all of Dublins games in Croke Park when there is no real need to have every game there.
But people are realistic too, semi finals and finals have to be on in Croke Park, it is still the national stadium. Just that not everything has to be there when plenty of grounds can cater for the attendance they can bring at those particular stages. Its been dripped in now for the last 3 years, although significantly none of those 3 games over the past 3 years were actually home games for the opponent.
The super 8s is a case in point too. Croke Park doesnt have to be used for it. Surely they would have seen the conflict in setting it up and the likelihood of Dublin being there for 2 games.
All Ireland Semi Finals take place at Croke Park, thats a fact of the matter. Its been that way for as long as anyone cares to remember. Thats not the point. You seem to think its solely about the supporters. Its not. Its about familiarity with a stadium for the players. Its about angles, atmosphere, routines. Thats where the advantage is.
Why the fuck would anyone complain about them playing semi finals and finals in a stadium when everyone else does too. Thats just foolish.
Dublin played all their league matches at Croke Park up to the end of 1995 and only started playing at Parnell Park in 1996.
Selected league matches - Armagh 2003 and Tyrone 2007 and 2009 were played at Croke Park during the time period when Parnell Park was Dublinâs regular home league venue.
I heard precisely no objections to Dublin playing league matches at Croke Park back then.
Yes - I think it is probably needlessly confrontational by the GAA to schedule the match for Croker. But there really seems to be a sense of outrage here when such activities have been common for Dublin games for years now. It seems as if the word âneutralâ has got peopleâs back up this time even though many Leinster games and games towards the end of the Championship are supposed to be âneutralâ as well, point regarding use of Croke Park only option in some cases accepted.
