If the vfl doesnāt poach their players
Never knew he was in with the Clare senior hurlers.
He was with Cheddar for a period too
Time for kildare are to get rid of that chump
Heās a dead man walking, has been for some time now. No point doing it tonight though, heāll get no media out of it. Expect an announcement early next week.
They also beat Kildare under the lights in Croker in either 2014 or 2016 after extra time. It was pissing rain and I got a shhhteak in Darwinās after it.
Wasnāt there bad blood between Maurice and Jack O Connor?
Some falling out over land by their fathers in decades past. Maurice as a sub coincided with Jack as a selector.
On a similar vein, would Galway be the 1st team to play a semi final after losing their previous championship game?
Offaly did it in hurling.
I imagine if you go back far enough youāll probably find a team who objected to the result of a football semi-final and got a Mulligan.
Thatās how things were done in the good old days.
When the practice of objections stopped, you had the Joe Brollys of their day all over the place telling everybody the game was gone.
Will the Dublin v Galway semi final be the first semi final between two counties who won on each of their three previous semi final appearances?
Mauriceās crew were auctioneers so possible.
Stack has fallen out with teams everywhere he has gone. Adare wont wish him well after his shennanigans the week of county final last year
This is one of the worst and stupidest comments in the history of TFK.
Only time will tell.
IItās simply amazing the cowtailing that goes on regarding Dublin football. Itās somewhat understandable from the northern contingent like @Tank given the history of absolute collapse against the Dubs. But itās a bit sad from the Leinster counties and Cork in particular.
They are not invincible.
2am in Galway, Iām fairly rotten, back at my hostel , here are some drunken thoughts:-
- Galway is a far far better town than Dublin. Iād love to have a decent job here. Supposedly traffic is horrendous so youād want s city apartment + parking. That would be hard to get. So many friendly people coming up to me on the street tonight to talk. Itās the cultural capital of the nation.
- In the 2nd half Galway werenāt even trying. But Iām not sure if itās because they want Dublin in the semis, maybe they just realized circumstances meant they couldnāt match Monaghanās hunger so didnāt bother trying to fake it.
- Monaghan were mediocre in attack, never really went for the brave ball, but really committed in defence. Iād nearly say Drew Wylie was the unofficial MOM.
- you could tell the way it would go after 10/15 minutes when Galway had a free in from about 35 yards and chipped it back rather than go for the point. WTF.
- every mediocre club footballer should be inspired by Dermot Maloneās year. Heās all the romance of the GAA encapsulated. Entirely average talent, a self made top level player, he just stuck at it. There was a real bad performance a year or two ago, Iām too drunk to remember (maybe Tyrone and hairgate) and everyone assumed that would be the end of him.
- McCarthy will hopefully come good but itās still unwritten and up in the air for him. Heās not a half forward, all he does is get the ball and take it away from goal. All he can really do is a corner forward out and out attacking specialist and thereās not a lot of space for a player like that in circulstances where Monaghan frequently only have 2 players in the opposition half.
- similarly all up the air for Jack McCarronās future, his future could still
potentially be huge though. Iād like to see more of him. - this was the year when Monaghan absolutely had to deliver and theyāve done it. Mansy is showing signs of age for the first time. Corey, Mone etc on the way out, it was now or never. Thatās what often counts in Gaelic football.
- Iād rather Donegal than Tyrone in the semis and I think Donegal might do it. Theyād be my slight favorites tomorrow. I think player for player Monaghan are slightly ahead of Tyrone and I donāt think Monaghan are scared of them but I just think Tyrone will look at Monaghan in Croke Park and then go and perform. Iād also rather lose to Donegal if it came to it. But victory over Tyrone in the semis would be the sweetest moment of my entire sports fan life by a considerable distance. Monaghan have an excellent record v Donegal, weād really fancy ourselves.
- Karl OāConnell might be our best forward and heās playing in the backs. If Malone wasnāt having his special year then heād be the answer to our half forward problems, drop Mone into the half back line. Also the nicest lad on the team to talk to.
- I think Drew Wylie is a better player than Francine Bellew was.
- Delighted we knocked out those Kerry cunts. The most hateful team in the country, Donaghey being ring leader in chief. Everything @Cicero_Dandi says about them is right.
- McAnespie is my favourite player because I spotted him when he was about 14. I wonāt bore you.
- if Donegal beat Tyrone tomorrow and Galway beat Dublin next Saturday we could be almost champions by this day week.
- Fuck it. Fuck it, we can beat the fucking dubs. Beat the cunts in the league.
Fuck but I do some long posts. Greatest day of the greatest weekend of the greatest summer ever. Thanks for the love lads. Iām off to sleep.
Superb post mate.
Brilliant talking to you earlier, mate.
Apologies for me suddenly ditching you to talk to that girl in the amber dress outside The Quays.
It wont. At the very most time will tell us that one team was better than Dublin
Nobody is saying they are invincible. In fact I think they are beatable this year and peaked in 2016. Its just stupid to say that potentially three teams might be better than them. One if the teams in the SF will have been soundly beaten by them in the group stages within the last month for example.
Congrats mate.
Iām definitely guilty of underestimating Monaghan, theyāve certainly added a lot to the side this year.
Guys like Malone, Fintan Kelly and McAnespie have come on leaps and bounds. They have very tigerish backs who management trust to go man to man now and theyāve brought a great level of composure.
I still think Tyrone have the best side in Ulster though but thereās not much between themselves, Monaghan and Donegal and matches on a given day will be like picking a name out of a hat.
No Kieran Hughes yesterday. Heās been one of Monaghanās main guys over the past few years. Is it more than OāRourke now doesnāt trust him than an injury? Heās a streak in him where he does the erattic, shoots from all angles, gets involved in things he shouldnāt get involved in and the major change in Monaghan this year is how smart they are playing with the ball, they were very patient yesterday in playing the ball.
The qualifiers have done them the world of good and allowed a few players to play themselves into form.
Galway were a team who really looked like their secured qualification had an effect yesterday, I still canāt for the life of me understand that performance, it was a must win game. For me itās a bit like Donegal in 2014, I firmly believe if a team topples Dublin in the semi final they will need to give a performance of a lifetime and will fail to repeat that level in the final.
You canāt read too much into Galway yesterday but Iāve had my doubts and I think you saw some of the limitations and rawness come out yesterday. I think they have defenders who are definite weak links and if Comer and Walsh are off form like yesterday then they are going to struggle badly for the scores.
Itās not surprising to see Kerry out before the semis when they have a tough path to the semi final.
After beating the dross of Munster in the previous years they have had:
2013: Cavan
2014: Galway
2015: Kildare
2016: Clare
2017: Galway
