There’s no hard and fast rule as regards whether having one dominant club or strength spread more evenly throughout club football benefits a county team more, but in general the latter tends to be more important.

That isn’t to say having one dominant club can’t raise the standard of the county team. Corofin have been completely dominant in Galway in this decade and the Galway team has gradually worked its way back to strength. Castlebar have become dominant in Mayo. Underneath those though you have a decent spread of strength at junior and intermediate levels in both counties.

Crossmaglen were an outlier in that they were exceptionally dominant not just at Armagh level but at Ulster and All-Ireland level, so dominant that they could backbone an inter-county All-Ireland-winning team. There have been very few teams like that in history in either football or hurling, maybe Birr were another but I don’t think even they backboned the Offaly hurling team to quite the same extent.

Given your ability to pontificate I’m surprised you’re not a bigger fan of the pontiff.

Different counties structures means the measuring of a counties strength by their second and third tier representatives is skewed. Some counties have larger number of clubs in their senior and intermediate championships than others, thereby meaning their lower competitions may not be as strongly represented as a county with fewer number of clubs in the top tiers.

How many teams are in the Derry Senior Championship? There are 16 teams in Tyrone’s Senior Championship, it has yielded 7 different Champions in the past 8 years.

There are 16 teams in the Intermediate Championship, we’ve produced the last two Ulster Champions and Moy are the current All Ireland Intermediate Champions.

I think it’s 16 in the Junior as well. As far as I’m aware it’s only Errigal who field a seconds team in any of these Championships.

It’s a very healthy state of affairs.

In contrast to Derry where one club is in great shape and the rest are in need of life support.

Seven different clubs in Derry (Bellaghy, Ballerin, Lavey, Dungiven, The Loup, Ballinderry and Slaughtneil) have won a combined total of 15 Ulster Club titles between them. Three of those clubs Bellaghy, Lavey and Ballinderry have been All Ireland Club Championas and Ballerin and Slaughtneil have also made it to an All Ireland Club Final.

Errigal Ciaran are the only Tyrone club to ever win an Ulster Club Championship. The last of their two wins was 16 years ago in 2002. No Tyrone club has ever made it to an All Ireland Club Senior Final, yet alone win one.

Only 1 club seems able to win the Derry Championship these days. They’ve won their last two Derry finals by double digit scores. The Derry club championship used to be brilliant, so used the Derry county team, now it’s just a procession and the county side are like a disease nobody wants to go near.

Maybe it’s tough for a dinosaur like you to understand.

I’m staying on track, Louth won All Irelands in the past but it does not change the fact Louth football is a mess at this point in time. Your argument is weak and flawed, an embodiment of yourself.
