2021 All Ireland Football-Covid is a cod tyrone style

The Dubs on here have taken this decision with good grace tbf. Wild decision really in the context of the game and the significance etc

The Green and Red of Mayo was special when it came on yesterday evening. As a county song, only The Hills of Donegal beats it.

Mayo really, really seem to get under the skin of their opponents in these types of games. Look how rattled the Dubs were near the end when it was slipping away. Was like when they beat Kerry a few years back and Donaghy boxing O’Shea.

Is it frustration at being unable to deal with the Tsunami type intensity Mayo bring in these situations?

They’ve seemed comfortable enough with that intensity for the best part of a decade to be fair

When the tide turns though and they are unable to deal with it. Mayo are capable of playing with this rabid intensity at times where teams are forced into turnovers and the opposition can’t deal with it. This seems to have triggered collapses of discipline like Dublin saw near the end yesterday.

Sure chunks of the games Dublin won vs Mayo they had to come from behind.

Fair play to Mayo they precipitated the end of that Dublin team y’day but the notion that they’ve had some sort of special intensity that the Dubs can’t live with is clearly rubbish. Even y’day with a Dubs team that was a shadow of previous iterations and living on reputation they just about got over the line.

Id say it was given with the 2017 endgame when they hauled down all the mayo lads on last kick out, in mind subconsciously or not. Ref was thinking fuck this I’m not letting these lads be dark artsed out of it again. What exactly did Philly do ?

They couldn’t deal with it yesterday and lost the plot.

Ran across the kickers path or distracted/infringed in some way I’d imagine.

RTE showed Kilkenny doing his damnedest to get close to Hennelly at the start of his run up and a mayo player wrestled him to the ground

Aido made the newspaper today

Sure but one datapoint isn’t exactly much evidence of anything really

Watched back a bit of that this morning. If you wanted a turning point you might get one at 37.30 of the first half. Dublin have monopolized possession for the best part of five minutes. Murchan has the ball on the right wing and for some reason decides to play a low 50-50 ball into the full forward line. Mayo manage to win it back move up the field and Conor Loftus hits a Hail Mary from 50 yards out that goes over. Instead of definitely going in 10-3 down (very little hope), possibly going in 11-3 down (no hope), Mayo go in 10-4 down (flicker of hope having scored the last point of the half).

Lots of parents at home yesterday evening questioning can little Fiachra or OisĂn or Peadar go to u8 football this morning after some of the head shots on display yday

The forearm to the head in 2nd half of ET that saw a mayo player carried off concussed was far more clear cut red than the shoulder to the head

Disgraceful attack on parents of Gaelscoil children there.

Looked back at it this morning and Lane got at least three crucial calls wrong but the MacLoughlin\Small incident will put paid to his all Ireland hopes for this year at least. Probably a bit early to be thinking of the final but I’m really looking forward to the Keegan v Clifford and Mullin(:crossed_fingers: ) v OSé match ups.

Dublin tried to blow Mayo away

Dublin tried to bore Mayo to death

Dublin lowered the blade on Mayo

James Horan is some bit of stuff. Even the nod to bring back in AOS as an acknowledgement of his stature was the right call. All round that is a serious camp.
