Apparently the science behind it is that for semi finals some people from the counties who might play them in the final turn up thus increasing the R number. Holohan and Philip Nolan carried out an experiment in the science lab in sexton st CBS. They had a Bunsen burner and all out and wrote it up in their hardback biology notebooks after.
