Shot clock
Half way line regulation
Teams could also go man to man to stop it.
Only problem with shot clock is implementing it at all levels of the game Iâd imagine otherwise itâs a good rule.
What the half way one and what would be the negatives of it ?
Donât think itâs always stoppable really especially because of the goalie being always a spare man. I thought Meath should have grabbed the Dublin player fouled him and kicked the ball away. Try get everyone marked up then before they take free.
Once you cross the half way line you canât go back over it. Like back court in basketball. If Dublin insist on turning football into basketball, then we bring in basketball rules
Sounds good. What would be the possible problems with it ? Itâs not just a Dublin thing either everyone is at it. Theyâre just the best at it as they have the best players and are ahead in every match.
Referees
Why would you encourage a team to sit back and defend ? At the end of day itâs up to oppositions to get ball back if they are losing âŚthis nonsense that itâs dubs fault that teams retreat into a shellâŚ
Is it Leinster v Ulster and Munster v Connaught in the semi-final? Would Tyrone potentially have the means to really trouble Dublin if they beat Monaghan?
Dublin played Cavan last year so canât be
Munster vs Ulster
Leinster vs Connaught
Leinster v Connacht semi
Ah I think it is an issue with the game in general. Maybe thereâs no regulating it but its much too easy to hold possession and go nowhere in gaelic football.
Go man to man itâs not as big a issue
You could argue the same for basketball and they obviously felt the need to bring in a rule for the exact same reason. The funny thing is it took teams over 100 years to realise that it was a possible tactic! The pitch is too big and you can pass in too many ways to go properly âman to manâ and stop it.
Soccer has offside and you donât have the ball in your hand, rugby has offside and passing backwards Gaelic football is uniquely set up for it.
Pace is the issue then. Do you really want games ending up 6-12 to 7-4?
Dublin look very reliant on 3 or 4 key players. Mark them out of it or they have an off day and itâs even steven.
Fenton ran riot today, the rest of their big names were quiet.
If Mayo come out of Connacht then theyâve a very good chance.
It would be typically Mayo-ish for them to beat the Dubs and then get massacred by Kerry in the final.
It wasnât a possible tactic until Jim McGuinness did what he did. And itâs only a possible tactic when teams do that. Itâs particularly effective at the end of matches because the opposition are knackered. The gas thing is it generally takes teams at least a minute of their own time to realise whatâs happening. They havenât planned for it. And thus they donât know what to do. Youâd think at this stage teams would have a plan to stop it. Itâs a perfectly legitimate tactic.
