I think itās a possible tactic at any stage in a game no matter what way the opposition are set up. Even if teams are tightly marked everywhere you just need to create one spare man and as fulvio said if you go totally man to man you can just drag all the defenders out of place and run straight through to score.
So itās a perfectly legitimate tactic. Any rule being introduced to clamp down on it, such as, say, banning going back over your own half way line, would only favour defensive teams. The point of sport is that tactics are invented to beat previously successful tactics. Then further new tactics are invented to beat those tactics. You donāt change a rule with serious consequences just because one team have a tactic that works. Anyway sooner or later itāll be Dublin on the wrong end of a team playing possession, and nobody will complain then.
Itās far from being only Dublin do it though. It happens in club and underage games too. I think itās too easy to do and is very boring end to a game. Youāre right though it probably wouldnt be easy to legislate against it. Ps Kevin feely picked up a āserious knee injuryā according to the commentator you were asking earlier.
There was a notorious incident in a match in Derry a few years back where each team were at different ends of the pitch, like at the underage disco in The Simpsons. One team had gone full McGuinness lined up behind their own 45 and the other team, who were leading, just decided to take the piss and play it around among themselves near their own goal. This went on for a number of minutes.
Thatās a shame for Feely if he has a serious injury. It would be good to see Dublin get a serious test from Kildare and itās much harder to see that happen if heās out.
A shot clock would actually be great craic if it was logistically possible. The standard of some lads shooting is so bad though it might be hard to define what was a shot
Who says it has to implemented at every level. Itās only an issue at senior inter county
Itās definitely not logistically possible. Drastic rule changes while well intentioned usually end up being negatives for the game in general. You saw that with the penalty in the Tipp v Clare game in hurling.
Is the attacking mark still in use? A dog of rule if ever there was.
Are Leinster and Ulster finals both Sunday week?
Yes but youād expect thereās a good chance the Ulster final will go to Croke Park and one of the matches will switch to the Saturday.
Dublin will probably play Saturday evening so but will be interesting what they do with the hurling quarter finals then.
Actually the Monday could be an option for the Leinster final as itās a bank holiday. Dublin have played on two August Bank Holiday Mondays and won neither match, with a combined points difference of minus 17 over the two.
The keep ball is Gavin making full use of their advantages. It turns it into a purely physical game, Dublin have the largest pick of athletes combined with the best conditioning and preparation that money can buy, plus the huge advantage that they live in a small geographic area and donāt ever have to travel for training or matches, sleep in their own beds the night before. As has been seen countless times now over the run of manufactured wins, itās the last 15 when they outlast the amateur teams as the advantages leave them with way more energy. Unless you invent a time machine thereās no going back.
Gavin retired in 2019. Dessie Farrell is the Dublin manager now. Try and keep up.
Yeah youāve no counter argument. Got it. Stick to the hearses.
A request has gone in for the Ulster final to be played in Croke Park.
What kind of crowd will be allowed in? 10k plus?
Think they had 18k last weekend
This is goldā¦ Mattress Mick has played as a big role in dubs success as Jim Gavin ā¦
No counter argument, got it.
The salt of the earth types struggling mightily.
Whatās the point in arguing it ? Youāve decided the narrative and pinned anything that suits to it ā¦its ridiculous ā¦I mean Dublin canāt play keep ball if teams go man to man ā¦itās actually a response to teams setting up negatively against them ā¦but youāve decided Jim Gavin orchestrated it ā¦
