RTE pundits have a history of bigging up our representatives ahead of finals before they fall flat on their face.
Ailish McSweeney saying Catherina McKiernan would win the 10k at the 1994 Europeans (she flopped) and Eamon Coghlan saying Sonia would destroy the field minutes before her disaster in Atlanta spring to mind.
They were realistic about Elbows Shanahan’s prospects in the 800 metres but not realistic enough.
In saying that, I think our girls will win this. Ireland Ireland Ireland.
