2023 Club Championships

Worse than fundamentally useless

Probably a tier 2 or 3 BOICMC match but worth reporting the result anyway. Not sure if any injuries were accrued.

Fethard Town Park is going to become a real, niche venue on the BOICMC.

It’s an unreal set up there in fairness

Iv been up there for a rugby game and it was delayed 35 mins due to a ladies football NFL game starting late. They make some use of the place…are the dressing rooms any closer to being finished

The Coolmore lads doing their bit to pacify the locals after driving the price of land mental down there

Ardfert and Kilmoyley are the one parish. Causeway and Ballyduff one parish.

Used to be the case that probably 80% plus of the lads playing in the Kerry hurling championship went to Causeway secondary school.

Ardfert and Crotta lads would have gone elsewhere and that was it. They used to have a great schools team. Were A VEC and won all Ireland’s in the 00s

Its funny the way half parishes/split parishes work in that while you might think that if the two clubs joined up, they’d have a serious team, the reality is that the rivalry of outdoing each other can make both sides better.

Arles Kileen/Arles Kilcruise being a classic of this genre.

The GAA is built on and maintained by hatred

The prime example. They were Junior/Intermediate when together, serial senior county finalists after the split. The hatred there is far from what it was at its prime, and they are even playing underage together now as part of Na Fianna Og, but it hasn’t gone away, not by a long shot. Kilcruise are now Intermediate, and a dangerous intermediate outfit, but depending on Ross Munnelly and Davy Conway and little else rushing to help unfortunately. Killeen are still senior, held together around the Kingstons, but with 40 somethings dotted everywhere and apart from Colin Dunne not a whole lot coming either, but still senior and with the two boys, always dangerous and capable of getting the win to stay up. However, Kilcruise got their Senior title and Killeen didnt and that’ll be the legacy.

They’ll have to go back together at some stage they say. We will in our fuck they both respond.

At one point between both clubs they must have had half the Laois Senior starting team?

Cnoc Sion have their championship opener against Fourmilewater (Caislean Cuanach) in the exotic surrounds of the St Mollerans GAA grounds in Carrick on Suir on Friday night.

Do St Molleran’s still host that tournament @peddlerscross? It used to be a good barometer of form before going into championship.

I dont think so.

When Cuala were starting out around 2015 they got an all merciful beating off Ballyhale Shamrocks i think which stood them in good stead going forward.

Is there anybody better-placed to challenge Ballygunner this year?

A third of it anyway at one stage, some overlapped, some didnt. But they had a serious representation over the time of their peak.

Off the top of my head

Beano
Donie Kingston
Paul Kingston
Paul McDonald
Donie Brennan

Ross Munnelly
Davy Conway
Chris Conway
Paudge Conway

Realistically De La Salle should be the strongest of the chasing pack.

Played Kilcruise in a practice match a few years ago and the great Chris Conway was still togging out at the age of about 41. Has he dropped back to their Junior B team now?

You pass through Ballickmoyler going into Arles. That’s part of Ballylinan GAA I believe. 3 clubs in a very small radius of each other.

I am not sure about that

Conor O’Keefe (Kerry senior hurler), John Griffin ( former Kerry senior hurler) both Lixnaw went off injured in the closing stages of the semi final - potential advantage Crotta

Lixnaws last 5 championships have been won with a Limerick man at the helm, now they have Barry Hennessy ( Limerick) - advantage Lixnaw

1999 ( Gerry Molyneaux)
2005 ( local Lixnaw man but Brian Begley as coach)
2007 ( Eamon Cregan)
2014 ( Ciaran Carey\Mark Foley)
2018 ( Mark Foley)

Crotta have been more successful at underage , 3 minors and 2 under 21s won in recent years, many of the Crotta hurlers with the sister football club St Senans won St Senans first ever North Kerry senior football championship about 3 years ago, these guys know how to make a breakthrough, Crotta hadnt won a minor hurling championsip ever until they came along - advantage Crotta

Lixnaw beat Crotta in the 1985 and 1999 senior final( after replay) - advantage Lixnaw

Crotta have lost 7 senior finals since they last won it in 1968 - advantage Lixnaw

Crotta wear Mayo colours - advantage Lixnaw

Lixnaw have Shane Conway - advantage Lixnaw

Crotta have Barry Mahony - advantage Crotta

Lixnaw hardly won a match in the county league which is usually an omen that they will win the championship based on times past - advantage Lixnaw

There is some piseog about bank of bog on Stacks mountain which is in Crotta terrain that someone made a statement years that Crotta would never win a championship until the last sod of turf is cut out off that bank, apparently it was last year -advantage Crotta

Cuala beat Whitehall Colmcille in the Shane Stapleton Derby tonight handy enough 0-23 to 2-10 in front of around 35 people at Parnell Park.

Joe Fortune having a good pop off Saint pre-game on commentary saying “he talks a good game anyway”.

Cuala are gone back a mile. Con could still win them a County Final though when he gets back. Eoghan O’Donnell gave everything for Whitehall. Do Gannon or Costello even play hurling for them anymore?

Portlaoise must be eternally grateful they split
