Shameful to see clubs sign up to this - interesting to see they’ve some clubs with 2 teams, appears a lot refused to participate. Credit to those who refused the call.

There really should be a 7s competition in every county around the May bank holiday incorporating local charities and a cash prize for the winners. We will say €1,000.
A super 7s finals competition then the weekend of the all Ireland with €10,000 to the winning club on the June bank holiday akin to the Spa 7s or Comortas NA Gaeltacht.
The GAA are terrible at social hurling/football type stuff like this.

Fifty years ago there was plenty tournaments across most counties, and with good prizes in places too.

It was generally a watch sponsored by a Jeweller or a pair of boots.
They’re used to brilliant tournaments in Galbally with games between the big Cork city clubs, Kilkenny clubs and other clubs around the place.
Them days are long gone.

Apparently Knockavilla Kickhams used to host a tournament from which the Hockers nickname arose
I taught that nickname began from the period in the 60s when they won a load of west championships before they would go out & lower the blade v Holycross or the like.
Could be a mix of both.
The Gaa pushed the all Ireland quarters finals for football into July this year so all these players miss the cut off for America. I would bet the preliminary quarter finals next year will be first week of July.
Great opportunity for young lads, let them off.
Get the travelling out of their system.
