Abortion Referendum Thread

What?

:grinning:

Iā€™d say it almost certainly looked something like this.

CMAAAAANNN

You aborted the jam transaction?

If iā€™m thinking of the same family the son is only early twenties and his name is Alexander something or other with a double barreled surname. He works in there too, as does the sister. The father has a smig and is a lecturer in UL. The woman herself has a book out about how to make jam. I think they are all vegetarians. It makes sense that they would be voting yes to me, so I assume we are talking about the same stall in there.

Havent heard that term in a v long time

Itā€™s Theresa Storey, based out in Ballingarry I think, she does an amazing chili and garlic mustard, Iā€™m not into jam myself,
She was in UCC at the same time as me, was a bit of a hippy spa yes vote goes without saying, sheā€™s not actually American at all despite the twang,

Poor old Batt and his family (18 i believe) will have to become self sufficient

Another ā€œthis never happenedā€ or was @HBV in Dublin last night?

Women would know a bit more than men on the subject of reproduction.

Well not sure thatā€™s the point I am making.

Itā€™s more about the emotion surrounding a thought of abortion, having/lost a child.

I had a girlfriend have a miscarriage from a surprise pregnancy and never knew. Despite all that and there was no ā€œexcitementā€ or real loss the emotional fall out was significant. Their body starts to expect a baby. Thatā€™s what we are on earth for deep down. Reproduction. We are both hardwired for it.

But the inability to care for it is a real thing too or an association with assault or destructive relationship.

I am very conflicted personally. I know a girl well who had an awful time after an abortion in a local village and psychologically. I know another who went to England and they did not Do it properly and she had to have emergency operation back here.
On the flip side I believe had there been abortion more easily accessible in 1977 I wouldnā€™t be here now. A cold hard confronting fact. I do not think my birth mother had the strength or support to deal with it. So itā€™s conflicting.
However I do think the choice should be there and a warmer environment be developed. I know GPā€™s who are so wonderfully supportive. Then I also know of some who have mentally damaged girls for life.
The bottom line is culture matters, not laws. Education matters. Not laws.
It still comes down to a few unfortunate girls being attacked, parents instilling a self respect in their daughters and a few who will be reckless. Essentially nothing changes from those points of view.
So I would suggest very little will actually change. London is incredibly accessible these days. All it is really saving some individuals some money on one level. But on another level it is removing the shameful and lonely trip many have gone on.

Thatā€™s essentially all that matters. If you have ever looked into the eyes of a girl who did that there is only one way you would vote.
