Why? I remember hearing the septic tank thing at the time of the scandal, did it never happen?
Thatâs a splendid article by the brilliant Una Mullally and she was excellent on The Stand with Eamon Dunphy the other day too.
She has the hipster fascists and Screaming Waterseses rattled to within an inch of their lives.
Well, for starters, there was no eighth amendment when the septic tanks happened.
Fair play for sharing that. Big statement to make.
Donât mean to pry but have you had contact with your birth parents down the years?
Thatâs it?
Surely itâs moe relevant that the septic tanks werenât known about when the Irish people accepted the 8th
I was actually surprised by her on that. I wasnt expecting to think much of her, but she didnt do a whole lot of screaming Mullally on it.
I keep hearing from the No side that they donât want to criminalise anybody or put them in prison or anything like that.
So, are we all agreed on both sides then that the maximum punishment for abortion in this state should be absolutely nothing? No criminal conviction, no conviction of any sort, and a maximum prison sentence of 0 years, 0 days, 0 hours and 0 minutes.
Yes?
Iâd be happy with that. Itâs almost like thatâs exactly what the Yes side is campaigning for.
I said for starters
but look at the headline again, it makes no sense.
try and leave your side in the debate to one side and look objectively in the piece.
âScreaming Watersâ, mate - an angry, irrational person who resorts to pathetic, emotive rot
to try and blackmail other people when they find out the majority of people have a different view to them is called a âScreaming Watersâ.
he went mental, and for no reason too. Dunphy is an awful interviewer, there is that. But he was asking when does life of the child start in pregnancy. ie 12 weeks, 24, conception etc. And Waters just lost all control. I couldnt understand it at all, it was basic probing of his viewpoint with no agenda to it. Albeit Dunphy asking in a roundabout long winded way.
Itâs fairly obvious that sheâs asking where the type of people involved in the No campaign (ie devout hardline Catholics who preach care for babies as their core motivator) were when Tuam was going on, rather than where the campaign in favour of the 8th was. Youâd want to be desperately trying to find fault if you thought the latter.
Mother.
Found I had 2 sisters too.
Right now theyâre trying to make sure that the new National Maternity Hospital is run according to the ethos of nuns.
Because the best people to run a maternity hospital are religious nutcases who have taken a vow of chastity.
Yeah.
and the further poin t being was that this wasnât brought to light until recently so its still a nonsense
What age were you?
I had an ex who was adopted and got in touch with her birth mum as well around the age of 30. A whole new family to get the head around.
The biggest surprise of this campaign is surely that No campaigners managed to get halfway up Ben Bulben at all - they much prefer flat earth.
Unaâs point that the 8th Amendment is a (class 2) relic of a long and systematic campaign of control over women by this state under the influence of the RC Church is well taken - I was talking to a very aggressive No canvasser yesterday evening - he told me âI would Lovett if we beat them - Lovett.â
My 2 sister in laws were the same, found out in their 30âs.One found out she was adopted the other found out her much older âsisterâ was actually her mother.Get this,My poor auld mother only found out in her mid 60âs that she was adopted.
I know
You have much of the social story of Ireland 1930 to 1980 right there. Add an emigrant life in England and you have the lot.
