AI SHC Semi-Final Killkenny v Tipperary

Stage 2 rattled from the man who’d give Stephen Daniels anAllstar.

We get it, things were better in your day. Drink your ovaltine and go to bed.

You are cynical for it’s own sake

Four
He went in for an equally wild one handed pull as the one that cost Rice just after the ball was thrown in for the 2nd half, may have been on Reid as well if memory serves

You wouldn’t consider hooking, two handed pick ups, jab picks, flicks, shooting, goal-taking, free-taking, sideline cuts and so on as ‘skills’ of the game?

What a fucking predictable “retort”. Every day is my day you oaf.

He should ring up a few coaches and tell them about his ball alley idea.

Notwithstanding the wet behind the ear/rebel without a cause approach of wtb and Turenne who lack a lot in wisdom, I would have to say that in my lifetime the hurling from1987-92 was the best, particularly the Cork Tipp matches of that era. Fucking brilliant stuff.

Sorry Fagan but all you’re doing is trotting out the same old reactionary, out of touch tripe that you hear from the likes of Pat Spillane. If you were actually offering some accurate depiction of what coaching is actually like these days and critiquing that, then there’d be a basis for argument. But for the love of god, surely you must see what a crank you sound like? Preaching that lads need to be in ball alleys? There have been more ball alleys built in the last 10 years than there were in the previous 100. They’re at the core of all skills development these days, way more widespread than they ever were before, and if you knew what coaching was like these days it’s hard to imagine you’d come out with anything like that.

Lads like you probably have ye’re heart in the right place but ye just sound like ye’re afraid of everything. Afraid of physical conditioning. Afraid of coaching innovation. Afraid of coaching education. Afraid of coaching structures. Whether ye’re bitter cynics or not that’s exactly what ye sound like.

…are they skills or not mate.

Yes, mick Doyle with his belly hanging out kicking the ball over the line was heart warming for fat kids everywhere , and of course donie Oconnells unique method of bouncing a ball down a blind alley looked more like the coyote in the road runner with a rocket strapped to his arse than a hurler. The skills have improved, the game has evolved and in hurling speed of hand and thought will often nullify strength and obstruction. Kk are incredible to watch, they were super, the fat lady will soon sing

That was my favourite period aswell. Those Cork Tipp matches were epic. John Fitzgibbon was my hero. I was lucky enough to play hurling with John in Boston. Legend does not do the man justice.

Wtb. On the contrary I’d look at you and think that you are a slave to orthodoxy and the whole physical conditioning industry. And so orthodox that you don’t have any ability to see outside the box.

That was a very skilful cork side , Cunningham , casey, fitzgibbon, mark foley, tony sull and of course j cashman.

No I don’t think the skills have improved significantly since that era. Yes players were portlier in general but they typically had a broader palette of skills

How right you are :pint:

They didn’t , they just had more space and more margin for error

Denis Mul, Johnny Crowley, Fenton, Teddy Mac, Kevin Hennessy, Tomas Mulcahy, Tom Cashman. Those were halcyon days.

Bouncing a ball down a blind alley? WTF???

You’re the one who’s dismissing the entire development squad system on the basis of the two minor games you watch on TV every year.

I’d look at the availability of archival footage and suggest that the very idea skill levels haven’t improved is laughable. Can you explain your argument that the development squads are producing identical squads everywhere? With reference to real world examples if possible.
