Poor auld Mullach is sorry he ever started this thread I’d say.
Kicked goals or even kicking the ball in general seems to be far less common than it used to be.
So hang on, Fagan agrees the game has gotten considerably faster but believes skill have dis-improved…
+1 , Tipp had some decent fowards back then, English, Fox, Leahy, O’Connell…
Where did I say the game has got faster Turenne?
:), seems to have been quite cathartic for the Clare lads, they are getting it all off their chests.
The luddites have invaded TFK. .
The development squads in Clare are producing outrageously skillful players , definitely at the expense of stronger more mature youths. They are vastly expressive, I am watching Cathal oconnells progress with great interest, if somebody who’s 5ft 4 with no pace advantage can play senior intercounty hurling it will signal another change. It’s definitely not one size fits all. Hurling is like any other art or game, the more you practise at a higher level the better you become, that is an undeniable fact and the primary reason for their success
What a pity there are not more hurling championship matches in Killarney.

Bouncing a ball down a blind alley? WTF???[/quote]
He was a headless chicken
I thought it was fairly obvious to anyone with two eyes Fagan.
Not just Clare, Tipperary, Waterford, and of course Kilkenny who created the template for the whole idea are consistently producing far more skillful players at minor level. Last Sunday’s minor game was an exhibition. The skill levels lads have at 14 these days is higher than what lads had at 17/18 fifteen years ago.
Ok I still have 2 eyes. So where did I say that?
I agree with that, does not make all the other ridiculous stuff you have talked about ok though. Having 16-18 year olds better conditioned is a good thing? It will reduce the amount of ACL’s and broken collar bones they will get when they move up in speed and physicality. It’s even very physical at certain club levels now. I heard that last year only one Minor played in the whole Cork Senior Football championship. Clubs won’t even put young lads in at that level.
The thing about development squads is down to the county themselves. Corks hurling is particular is useless, but that’s mostly because the people at ground level, sometimes brilliant at what they do, are not on the same page as the people over seeing it overall. The development squads don’t fit neatly into the Minor and U21 set ups either. But it does work very well in KK and Clare for instance. It should work well in Cork as we have regions making it easier to run, but these are not utilized very well due to the outdated nature of that system and the people running it.
I think Hurling is crying out for a team ti bring back over head pulling of some sort. It can work to a degree if you have a very lively skillful inside forward line expecting it. Galway are doing alot of batting these days, also good to see.
I think though anyone advocating the use of bigger hurlers is just mad, most people have hurlers way too long for themselves anyway. The size or length of the Hurley has nothing much to do with overhead pulling for instance, which skills mostly consist of strength (for body positioning) and timing.
I can only speak for Clare , the improvement there has been dramatic and directly traceable to the development squad formation
…its obvious to anyone with two eyes that the game has gotten faster.
There was a minor final in 1988 between cork and kk which was exceptional
