 it was revenge for what tennyson did to Lar, tennyson threw the hurley at Festy in the 09 final as well.
John Browne hit Donie O’Connell a nice slap in the 87 replay as he was scoring.

Not a mention fo the game on this champioship matters nonsense on rte…or did i miss a couple of seconds at the start…?
Richard Browne
Ollie still scored the goal though didn’t he?
he did indeed…
I think that match might have been one of Ger Cannings first commentary efforts. I could be completely wrong of course.
i think it was Mick Dunne?
Probably, but I remember someone around that time telling me about this brilliant new commentator doing GAA matches, the bold Ger. Maybe it was the league final that year.
Ollie got the goal.
The hurley throw was in the Munster Final
that was a brilliant FF line, OConnor, Mkenna and Cregan
i miss omuireartaigh, they should still use him, he was quite unique
i was correct

In all the commotion after Sunday’s game, it seems to have been forgotten that the first half was brilliantly entertaining. Watched it back this evening and there was some fantastic stuff played in it. It’s bemusing to see how hard Declan Ryan has decided to make life for his own forwards though. Why on earth did he do it? No direction to it whatsoever, just launching no-look ball up into the air and hoping it breaks generously.
You’d have to think that they’ll make some sort of progress again under a manager who has a slightly more sophisticated conception of the game. One of the biggest problems they have to fix is there midfield though, which was a shambles. Brendan Maher doesn’t seem to know what his role is and looks a shadow of his former self. I think he might need to be returned to the half-backline to get his form back and indeed shore up the gap at No.5 which has been there since Fanning departed.
Shane McGrath is another man who looked at sea, very much outmatched against Fennelly (as most would be) and it was somewhat fantastical to expect him to battle with Fennelly all day. He either needs to return to his role as a linkman, or become a twenty minute player. He doesn’t look capable of being an all action midfielder anymore.
It’s going to be hard for Tipp to fix these areas, especially with the clock ticking at 3 and 6. Unless a new regime rejuvenates the aforementioned players and returns them to the form of 09/10, they’re going to need reinforcements.
Tipp were right in it at HT, 1-10 was a great score, I had a heafty bet ok KK and I would have gladly taken my money back.
Curran is finished, McGrath is finished, Corbett is nearing the end, Kelly is finished, and Cummins has maybe one season left.
Maher Will go HB, probably P Maher to FB, but that leaves a lot to fill, but they have talent, it will take them a season or 2 to re-build it though
Who will come in? I don’t know how much talent they have at the back. They’d be much better off with Pauric Maher at 6 you’d think, Donagh Maher might be given some time to make it at 3.
think he is more of a CB, ODwyer will make it, Gearoid Ryan could make it, Shane Bourke should, Seamus Hennessy should have made a fine MF or LHB. I think that when you are building a team having a bomb proof 3 is crucial, thats why I would put P Maher there and B Maher at 6
Hennessy looks very good at times, even if his mobility isn’t great. Heading off to the states this summer wouldn’t be the best sign.
Ground hurling does not happen now because of a couple of things.
If I have a full ground stroke on the ball and someone nips in and flicks the ball away and I break the hurl off them it can result in a red card. People don’t take the chance with it. People see a hurl break off someone, they think it should be a red card. It shouldn’t and it wasn’t like that in the past but that’s where we are now. So it is down to how it is reffed but also down to the perception of the people. If people would accept that in hurling, hurls break then you may see more ground hurling. Sometimes it breaks when hitting ball, sometimes off another hurl, sometimes off people. It happens. It’s not an automatic red if you break a hurl off someone. It should be if it’s reckless or malicious. Everyone who played on Sunday will have had hurls broke off them at some point. It’s the nature of the game. But people have worked around it and found a better way to play because…
If I pull on the ball it is harder to control. Maybe this skill can be worked on to improve accuracy but I don’t see it being a tactical evolution. These days if I get in a ruck with a bunch of players and kick the ball to space, rise it and lay it off to a teammate they have a much better chance at picking out a team mate down the field than if I pull on it. This is the emphasis on possession that people are talking about.
Fenway, do you think either of those teams would win today? I think they would be beaten out the gate. Even with a ref from back then. I’ve watched a decent bit of All-Ireland Gold and even the difference between 2002 and now is big. I watched Clare Limerick from the mid-90s and it was miles behind what you see these days.
The 2nd point makes a bit if sense even if I don’t totally agree with you. I always knew where I was putting a ball I doubled on or hit on the ground, and if I did then hundreds of other fellas can too. We did an amount of ground hurling, and we were lucky enough to have Johnny Clifford training us for a while, and he used drill it into us about trying ti be precise with where we put ut. He also emphasized the inside forwards had to be gone expecting it once ball was about to be pulled on. I firmly believe there is plenty room for it in the game, a hybrid approach to it. Backs are so well trained how to mark space an deal with certain opponents it might upset them a little with a sometimes different approach.
It’s all about coaching, bottom line, teach it, trial it, tweak it, teach it. They’ll do it, and you will have success.
The 1 St point is utter nonsense. I have never seen a red card for what you described, and don’t believe anyone watching the games wants it. Throw up a video of what you are talking about in case I’m misunderstanding. Because I have never seen a red card for someone pulling on the ball. A wild swing where a guy is standi g over or on top of the ball is a different thing, but even that is probably only get a yellow. Can you imagine Cathal McAllister giving a Red card for that?
yeah. a great win.
