Just listened to the new Fontaines DC album. It has its moments but overall I’m fairly disappointed. Televised Mind is the best song on it. I don’t care about originality / not knowing what they want to sound like, or whatever but they just need more good songs.
BTW I saw it described on Pitchfork as post-post-punk.

That Boys in the Better Land is a great track but everything else I’ve heard from them is meh.

The first album was probably a little better.
I’ve watched Fontaines DC from afar without fully going into their albums.
From what I heard I think that they are above decent. I don’t necessarily get the whole derivative thing, every band has an element of that, but their songs are good, fresh sounding and have a bit of bite.
Maybe it is the sheer lack of quality of Irish alternative type bands recently and going back years that makes them stand out.

U2 started out as an alternative type band.
Yeah and that had some good stuff in my view.
But that’s about it - a few other scattered around maybe.
I wouldnt inflict it on my laptop - you’ve heard one rapper you’ve heard them all - N**ger, bitch, pop a cap in your ass, be up in da club etc. etc. etc.
