Huh?.. that’s Just female authors. Women cant write books

Sade is in my top 5 of all time greatest male/female.

Female only, PJ is grand but Kate Bush as stated is streets ahead. I’d have Carol King up there, Amy Winehouse , Randy Crawford and Odetta

This lady has to come into the reckoning in any talk of greatest female artists. Below is some tour de force

What a vocal performance on this. Take a bow Tammy

A classic.

I think you love music too much and get excited with statements like that,

Unpopular opinion alert
I preferred Courtney Love to Polly Harvey at the time, still do, Hole were daycent,
L7 were a very good band also

I don’t know.

PJ has been pretty much top notch for the guts of 25 years. Different styles of music too.

Rid of Me, To Bring You My Love and Let England Shake are 10 albums.

PJ is an outstanding artist but I find her 90s stuff a hard listen now, Stories and Let England Shake are the only albums I would listen to today. She wouldn’t be in my top 10 female artists but sure opinions, etc.

Mazzy Star and spin off projects. Worth diving into? I only know one Mazzy Star song.

That’s all anyone knows

I know 3.

You’re not anyone

Kendra Smith is the key person here.

She was replaced by Hope Sandoval.

She started off with The Dream Syndicate in the early 80’s. Check their stuff out.

As far as women groups go, I think Warpaint are brilliant. Haim are a guilty pleasure

Warpaint have a few cracking songs alright. Drummer is pretty good.

Off I go!

Just don’t ask them to write books.

Interesting discussion here. Would have to say I’m a big fan of PJH and she’d be one of my favourite artists, regardless of gender. Joanna Newsom would be another. Joni Mitchell and Bjork would be two that I probably should listen to more but really like the few records I have of each. I’m surprised the latter wasn’t mentioned yet.

Beth Gibbons of Portishead has done two really good solo records, over 20 years apart from each other. Cate Le Bon is probably my favourite more ‘recent’ female artist, but would also like Aldous Harding, The Weather Station, etc. If we’re moving away from female solo artists to all-female bands, Sleater Kinney would be the benchmark for me, followed by The Slits and The Raincoats.

I’m probably missing someone obvious.
