Fuck Tipp

That 30 seconds encapsulates why ground hurling is no more.

9 x West Tipp representatives

Long long time with a crew like that

You’re as entitled as the next to your opinion but I had him down as more of a VW Jetta.
Reliable, would always start and run till the tank emptied but not a lot more. It may well have been his best ever day in the jersey but not an RR operator.

Ah yeah, a Jetta is a noble call. Far more value for money too.

The amount of pulling on the ball is off the charts even for the time. A Tipp man has barely rose the ball yet

O’Rourke was an excellent wing back. His distribution and reading of the game were absolutely top drawer, never the quickest but rarely was that exposed.

Big call from Coach Babs to drop team captain Pa O’Neill for an 18 year old, John Leahy. Probably an element of wanting the main man Nicky English to lift the cup and make the speech when they end the 17 year famine.

That and the fact young Leahy was mobile, ie he could run reasonably fast.

The Galway goalie just hit the ball to the far 14 and you’ll have lads giving out about the light sliotar these days

GY had a serious wind in first half, Commins drove that down on top of his FF line.

Who was John McNally playing with Dublin? Never remember him.

Lovely bite in this

Galway doin all the hurlin. God be with the days when it evaded you first time you just pulled as hard as you could on your man.

All it did was heap unnecessary pressure on Nicky English. There was uproar in Tipp in the lead up because of it. Pa O’Neill had scored 2 goals in that year’s league final. Could’ve started him and whipped him if it didn’t work out.

Surprised Galway’s age profile is fairly good here, surely even with what went on in 89 they should have got another All Ireland?

Lot of air miles in the legs.
