There are also first Championship starts for Millstreet’s Mark Ellis and Alan Cadogan of Douglas, who both featured strongly in this year’s Allianz League, with the latter also starring for the Cork U21 footballers. I presume if Aidan Walsh goes on to win All Ireland medals/All Stars @twiceasnice97 will resign from the internet?
what’s the view on the st in Cork re Mark Ellis?
What street? Why would you want to know what homeless people and drug pushers think of him?
Millstreet?
He’s from Millstreet Fagan
a lad of lads from clubs in and around cork city… JBM going old skool…
Whats with all the Kanturk lads? Is that not a more prominent football area?
He didn’t look related to an inter-county center-back when he played U-21 but JBM are desperate. Hopefully has improved hugely since then. Always was a big unit that worked very hard but prone to bad mistakes and had mediocre hurling.
Just got bit lucky with a few good hurlers.
There are only 8 city lads on the panel. Admittedly 7 of them are starting.
I was talking about the starting team …would douglas, sarsfields and bishopstown not be considered in and around the city?..
Sars is outside the city and in the Imokilly division, the other two are city teams.
Cork on a hiding to nothing here. If they lose, people will say they are shite, and last years AI was a gimme for Clare. If they win narrowly, ditto. If they hammer Waterford, people will simply point out that Waterford were short a few marquee hurlers and were there for the taking by anyone.
Point partly being that I don’t really think people give this Waterford team much credit whatever happens. Corks to lose seems to be the general consensus. Dangerous always agonist Waterford in the Munster championship, against anyone in the Munster championship in fact. JBM is, for my money, the best IC manager there is bar Cody, (and quite possibly is cody’s match if he had the players), and won’t underestimate them I wouldn’t think.
So Cork are on a hiding to nothing and Waterford are on a hiding to nothing?
Errr, no. Cork are, for the reasons above. Waterford I think may struggle due to injuries and suspensions, but I wouldn’t write any team off in the munster championship these days. Of them all, Waterford look the frailest because of absentees but as a galwayman I’d always be wary.
I wouldn’t say JBM is a great manager. he is a very motivator and is inspiring to all in Cork, but a master tactician he is not, I do have faith in him, but reacting and making quick decisions on the line would put him well down the picking order. Anyhow Cork should still have enough for Waterford…
