Galway will probably be going in as underdogs now against as you said a not particularly impressive Kilkenny. Maybe that’s the type of backs to the wall scenario, Galway need to shake them out of their lethargy.

We have a few free takers that are all moving parts. Stand back from the ball, big high jab lift and a wide arc of a swishy, wild swipe at it in the air at a different height from one free to the next.

All that movement and inconsistency in the strike leads to varying results. Sometimes a few in a row go over despite using a technique that doesn’t allow for consistent results, but ultimately we miss loads of frees.

P Foley is probably the best long range option but I don’t know with the close in ones. I’ve seen McDonald, Chin and ROC miss really easy ones from inside the 45 over the past 2 years. Jack O’Connor was on frees towards the end of the league and his style is as outlined above. He was good in some games and not in others.

Some of the national pundits have kinda lazily said we need to give our household name player like Chin the responsibility and let him get the scores and inspire those around him. But the other side of the coin is it’s a bit of a killer if you’re driving handy frees wide.

And this post from before the Dublin game sums up our freetaking woes. Chin was 10/11 last week but must have been 50% or below today. A technique that isn’t solid will lead to inconsistent results.

Wexford go from 2 to 5 by beating Carlow and drawing with Kilkenny.

Kilkenny go from 4 to 5 by losing to Galway and drawing with Wexford.

Galway go from 3 to 5 by beating Kilkenny and losing to Dublin.

Dublin go from 1 to 5 by beating Carlow and Galway.

Munster has produced just 7 of the 19 All Ireland winners this century. Limerick lads really getting carried away here in the back of their first All Ireland win in 45 years last year.

Leinster hurling is shit this year, and has been for a while. The fact that Kilkenny have won 11 of the 19 AIs this century is completely irrelevant.

Take Galway out of Leinster Geoff and tell me who won the other 11. Of the 7 All Irelands, you at least have 4 different Munster teams compared to 1 in Leinster.
Not one Leinster team ( taking out Galway ) apart from Offaly in 2000 has graced Croke Park on AI day this century . All 5 Munster teams have and all of them on more than one occasion.
