All-Ireland Hurling Championship 2019***

It’s one of those questions that you’d almost believe that the questioner knows the answer to already.

They’re from Na Piarsaigh so they don’t count or are deliberately ignored

1 goal. Dowling came on at the 56th minute when the score was 2-15 to 14 points. Casey came on at the 65th minute when The score was 2-15 to 15 points. Dowling scored a goal on the 67th minute. The score was 3-15 to 16. On the 76th minute the score was 3-15 to 2-17. Casey you could argue I guess assisted the Graeme point to make it 3-16 to 2-17. I have a feeling both will start and one definitely will. Either way if we are 6 or 7 down with 20 minutes and relying on our bench to change our game we are in big trouble.

They are a middling enough intercounty team with some effective hurlers in O’Connell, O’Donnell, Crummy, Moran and Rushe. I like Dillon but he can be very hot and cold

They has a tactic of leaving Rushe and Ryan pretty much on the edge of the small square with the other four forwards in a straight line around the 40 for their puckouts before they would all make a run in the first half on Saturday which was as bizarre as it was ineffective as they weren’t winning the puckouts clean and invariably didn’t have enough bodies on the breaks. Their half back line dominated the first half and allowed them to play/carry the ball through the lines and open up the Kilkenny defence and take some nice scores.

Once Kilkenny upped the intensity and stopped the Dublin half back line from hoovering up ball and playing it out they were a very ineffective outfit. They were forced direct and everyone of their forwards were beaten up a stick by the Kilkenny backs.

Stop Crummy and Moran and you go a long way to stopping Dublin.

I wouldn’t be eulogising our bench to the extent that I’d say we’d definitely win if we’re close with 20 to go. But I’d rather have them than not; I would argue that we are less weakened by subs than most- full-back line probably being the exception

It’s also an unknown if Casey starts will Flanagan or Graeme make the same impact off the bench. Some players are more suited to the sub role. Likewise Dowling; he’s brilliant coming of the bench.

Limerick are unbeatable. The poor mouth :joy:

And don’t you forget it kiddo

Agreed. The self-loating would sicken your hole. If we win, you’ll have the same fellas claiming it was part of a plan to lower expectations.

Limerick are a better team than Cork and will win on Sunday.

Faggots

Hurling will never make any inroads in the north/north eastern end of the county. There are three traditional forces in the county that need to buck up and the county team really needs their input again.

Carlow Town traditionally would have had a very strong hurling club. There was civil war in the club there about 15 years ago, lot of good people turned their back on it, think it might even have ended up in court. The whole juvenile club pretty much fell apart. They’re on the way back now at underage level but that will take a while to come to fruition.

Naomh Brid (Leighlin parish) have fallen off a cliff last few years as well and have no input to the county team at the moment. They were county champions in 1996, 2004 & 08 and thereabouts ever year. Club of Johnny Nevin, Carlow’s best hurler of the 1990’s/early noughties. Two years ago they conceded walkovers in every match in the senior championship and dropped back to intermediate. Not entirely sure what was going on there. I did hear mention that the team was pretty much in Australia and Canada en masse. A problem for rural clubs all over the country and not just Carlow.

Bagenalstown are an eternal conundrum. Would be the most successful club across all the underage grades, but a typical windy townie crowd, can never make any fist of it at senior level. They dropped back to intermediate last year, but should really be still a senior club.

Naomh Brid won the intermediate the year before last after being relegated but chose not to be promoted back to senior.

Cork should start Aidan Walsh, he may not win high ball clean, but will break it lay it off

Ah they’ll bate Limerick without resorting to that… in de football I mean

I might have been even harsher than that. While it was kinda funny at the time, you can’t allow a precedent for people on the sideline to interfere in the game.

What did Davy get for the incident with Jason Forde? Should have been the equal of that

8 weeks. I’d argue this was worse to be honest. Davy was on the field during a stoppage and didnt stop any play happening and Forde instigated any contact. Davy was 100% wrong and 8 weeks was absolutely right, cant be on the field of play. But going onto the field, actively going to mark a free player and then catching the ball? Fuck that shit.
